Someone impersonate me and wrote a nasty review about my sisters company. My full name and a photo of my facebook page was used to create the account that was used to create the review. How do I go about solving this.

Hello +Sherlly S, concerning "impersonation" of a Google account.

I think I can point you in the right direction.

Also, here is a link to Googles "G-Mail Help Forum" where I found a discussion that resimbles your same concern, https://goo.gl/1VLOK0 .

My research recommends reporting this to Google is your only option. (That unless you can gain access to the Google acct.)

By using your name and likeness, this person has committed identity theft. If you are in the US, this is a crime. After filling out the Gmail complaint, take screen-shots of the profile and review and:

1. File a complaint with the FBI https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
2. File an identify theft complaint with the FTC: https://www.identitytheft.gov/
3. Contact local law enforcement and file an identity theft complaint.
4. To get your photo off the profile, right-click over the image profile to get the full web address on Google (it will be very long). Assuming this was a casual photo taken on your phone - otherwise the photographer will need to take this step - file a DMCA takedown notice here: https://support.google.com/legal/contact/lr_dmca?product=maps

The person who did this may just think they are being funny, but law enforcement won't be chuckling. It's a crime. There are also significant civil liabilities that a lawyer could inform you of.

Hello +Phillip B,

I thought I would share that I have personally used all but the FBI in similar situations and in every case, it was Google who ultimately removed the imposters. One such incident involved a company using our own name as theirs.

Again, after a year of agonizing discussions with local law enforcement and DMCA, it was Google that ultimately removed the imposter.

Just saying...

Many homeowners and renters carry identity theft insurance - which usually requires a local police report. Many business insurance policies require a local police report as well. I've personally dealt with several online impersonations involving clients over the years, and Google in two cases asked the individuals for police report case numbers. A lot depends on who the imposters are - if it's some hacking in Belarus vs your business competitor across the street.

And yes, it's slow - which is why I suggested the DMCA route as well as the earlier recommendation made by you to go the Gmail route. But crossing all the 't's now comes in handy later.

Hello David,

As you have said someone has impersonated your data you can report the person by submitting  your details here.

https://support.google.com/plus/troubleshooter/1715140?hl=en

I hope it will help you get the profile removed and once its done you can contact Google My Business Support to get the review removed.

Thank you

Will this work with just a mapmaker url since Google÷ profiles are no longer required to leave a review?

Reviewers no longer have to create a Google+ account.  When you click on a reviewer, you get:

https://www.google.com/maps/contrib/11724941XXX0993874124/reviews

-- A mapmaker profile.  Not a Google+ profile. Which this particular form rejects.

You do not get linked to the reviewers G+ profile anymore when you click on the review name, so this form won't help if they haven't also created a G+ profile AND you can find the right one.
