so recently i have changed my kewords to start general then move to very pointed sets and this has led to me getting calls on my phone ext ads that are similar to what i do but not at all what i do if that makes sense. so what i need to do is add a grouping of words in the negative list to counter act this trend so i put words in there and my impressions fell to **bleep** near zero. Smiley Sad so now i need to add neg keywords to my list that will shut this down. i do mobile auto repair and was getting calls for auto repair parts or auto parts and so on also i was getting mobile phone repair or phone service bold showing in google as what matched search. Ok so how do i add negative keywords such as mobile phone repair or auto parts without killing auto repair or mobile repair keywords that are dumpiung work in my lap. Please help NEED to get cpc down and getting rid of incorrect click throughs will cut it by two thirds i'm sure

Hello and welcom to community,

It is always recommended to add educate number of negative keywords or else you will burn your budget incurring lots of irrelevant clicks. I am sharing you the link where you can have detail informtion on negative keywords.

per the examople given by you, I can say that you need to add more phrase and exact match keywords along with negative keywords. you should avouid using broad match as much as possible. e.g your keywords is MOBILE AUTO REPAIR and user searches for MOBILE REPAIR then may be your ad will show up. You cant add MOBILE as negative because MOBILE AUTO REPAIR is your keyowrd. Now what best you can do is add keyowrds in phrase and broad match.

Best practice for phrase match https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2497584?hl=en

Best practice for exact match https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2497825?hl=en

After that if you do not get educate number of impressions then try broad modifier. I will say this match of keyword is best for your type advertisement. Please let me know if you face any issue applying this keyword type. Details you can study in this linkhttps://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2497702?hl=en&ref_topic=1713959

Study both of them well, and then using keyword tool find out all possible searches happening for your kind of services in Google. Please share what kind of practice you are following and ho its performing so that experts in this orum can add more value to it.

Foyzul

Hi hellsicebox, further to Foyzul's replies, you might also want to look at using modified broad matches like:

+auto +repair +mobile

These would give you more flexibility but should still be exact enough to prevent too many irrelevant calls.
