Why may I not exclude an automatic placement?

HI!

I'm looking at placements (See Details > All) and want to exclude one.

I get an error message: Placement URLs must be provided in a valid URL format.

I"m not providing the URLs. I'm just checking a box and clicking Exclude.

What gives?

Thanks!

Hi @Greg M,

AdWords does not accept placement exclusions that are more than two levels deep. This is a very common problem that comes up while doing placements. Basically once you come across this problem, you have two choices:

1. Edit the URL to make it two levels deep and then add it as an exclusion (www.google.com/second-level-deep/do-not-go-three-levels

2. Edit the URL to add the entire domain say "Example.com" as a negative

Hope this helps,

James
