Stopping Ads from runniing below the fold

Now the the side ads are no longer running on Googles search results. Is there a way from stopping your ads running at the bottom of the page is the bidding is not enough to be at the top of the page?

If not, are there any plans to introduce this feature?

I have a serious issue with paying a high cpc for bottom of the page ads and do not want my ads to ever run at the bottom of a search page.

Hey Mick, how are things?

Here's my view on your questions:

Short answer to your question: Yes, there's.

The most important thing here is the HOW to achieve that. Your actual CPC price is not only consequence of your bid, but most importantly, consequence over your RELEVANCY towards the user. You should consider improve your campaign quality in order to have lower CPC price. I'll let a few article where we vastly discussed things to improve Quality Score, account structure and more that might help.

Google will always rely on Quality and Relevancy. In the past there was a feature where you could bid and select positions you want, but that's not the case for a while now, and I doubt this will come back.

Here's a few articles that might also help:

Focus on improving your account quality, this will sure bring you best results. To help you further more with the many article so far, I'll leave this one with a best practices guide: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6154846

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the detailed reply Leonardo

I agree that quality and relevancy are everything. The accounts I manage always have an excellent quality score and ad relevancy.

However, the keywords I bid for are highly competitive and a 10/10 quality score can still cost in excess of €5 per click. While I'm willing to pay a high cpc for an above the fold listing, I do not want to pay a large amount for a bottom of the page listing where the conversion rate will be much lower.
