Social Annotations and Word of Mouth Management

The growth of digital and social really has taken word of mouth to a different level with users now having increased accessibility to a screen. For some background, approximately 90% of people use multiple screens sequentially which means users have more opportunities to share their voice about your products or services online (See here for an overview of cross-platform consumer behavior).

 

Quite often I encounter advertisers who aren't quite sure where to start with taking control of their online social presence, so I wanted to highlight a Learn with Google webinar being hosted on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 1 PM EST. You can learn more about it here.

 

As an aside, within AdWords we offer social annotations, and without much of a surprise here, the vast majority of our advertiser are not utilizing this feature though on average its increases the CTR of any text ad by 5-10%. With social annotations, we show users endorsements or +1s from the community subscribed to your page. You can think of this as a highlight of your business’s support from the online community displayed with your ads, and it is a start to increasing your social presence with search results.

 

Social annotations are fairly simple to set up. All you have to ensure is the following within enhanced campaigns:

 

  • Your business has a Google+ page, and your Google+ page is linked to your website being used as the display URL of your ads.
  • Google+ page has recent posts and significant number of followers (~100).
