Single product multiple times in Google feed?

hi,

Am I allowed to add single product multiple times with different product types in Google shopping feed? Will this cause any problem? Does Google look into Product type for showing products in product listing ads?

I have one product mentioned under 5 different categories in  my website. And the categories are my product type in Google feed. Only one product type is in feed. Hence visibility is less I think. So adding same products 5 times with 5 different product type may help me to get more visibility. Does Google allows same product multiple times with different product type?

Thanks in advanced

Hi y2k_chapin, you should use only one Category for each unique product so you'll need to choose which Category most accurately fits your product and stick with that one.  See the help file below for more details:

Hi y2k_chapin,
To add to Jon's answer, product id's must be unique, meaning they can only appear in your feed one time.

(1) submitting the same physical item multiple times --
within the same target-country data -- is grounds for
disapproval, or suspension, at any time.

the same physical inventory item may be submitted only once --

google has a rather strict one listing per (physical) item policy.

(2) the google_product_category attribute is allowed only
one, single, exact, relevant, google-defined taxonomy value.

(3) however, the product_type attribute, for an item, may be submitted
with multiple, relevant, taxonomy (category) values if you wish; especially
if a physical item-offer is relevant for multiple categories and is currently
under multiple taxonomy (breadcrumbs) on the website.

importantly, the values may be used by google to help determine
relevancy (quality) and by merchants within campaigns -- so, be
certain that the values are relevant and are being submitted
using plain (ascii) text.

generally, always be certain the data is relevant for the physical item --
and check the values after (feed) processing, to be certain the data has
been submitted and processed accurately; otherwise, the data may result
in irrelevant impressions, unwanted clicks, or showing mismatch errors
within adwords campaigns.

Thank you all.

So it means I am allowed to add single product multiple times with different product types in Google shopping feed. Only point is the at I can't have one product under different Google_product category.

Got another doubt related to it. Does Google dissapprove products if the first x number or words on descriptions are identical to others? Lot of my products are disapproved and Google couldn't find why. All I can see is that all these disapproved products have similar description (only first few words).  Apart from that all ather attribute are following the rule.  So is this  the issue or something else?

thanks in advance

"So it means I am allowed to add single product multiple times ..."
no -- absolutely not -- that is grounds for disapproval and suspension.

it's likley best to remove all such multiple items --

from the feed to avoid disapproval or suspension.

description should describe the physical item --

submit the physical inventory item listing once

and only once; a product may be listed only once.

there are dozens of other issues that can trigger a disapproval --

Hi Y2k_chapin,

As far as I am concerned, disapproval of products is one of the great mysteries of GMC . Our products come in several variations. Each variations has a unique product id, and each variation has the exact same description. When I submit our feed, several of the products variations are routinely disapproved, despite the fact that other variations of the same item are approved. We can't figure it out.

Unless something has changed recently, there is no possibility of a manual override, it's just not part of the system.

Best of Luck!

a small checklist for variants --

do all variants in a group contain an identical item_group_id value?
do all variants in a group contain at least one variant attribute that
has a single value that differs among all items in that group?
does the variant price exactly match the price on the link landing-page?

if the variant is apparel are other variant-apparel rules strictly followed --
such as having a separate image_link per color variant and a color attribute?
for clothing and shoes are variant sizes also properly submitted?

if any item was disapproved and specific (variant) attributes

were corrected, was google notified to review the changes?

Hi Celebird,

Thanks for the info.

Answers to checklist:

do all variants in a group contain an identical item_group_id value? Yes
do all variants in a group contain at least one variant attribute that
has a single value that differs among all items in that group? Yes
does the variant price exactly match the price on the link landing-page? Yes

Typically, our listed products (autographed photos) have 6 presentation (framing) options. Each item has the appropriate image. Most of the products are always approved and a small number routinely disapproved. Of course, no reason is given for the disapproval, other than it has violated one or more policies. Typically, one variation of a product group is disapproved while the others are approved, and it's always the same variation. It's annoying, but I have resigned myself to accept this is just the way it is.

what variant attribute is being used to define "framing options"?
what are the exact variant values for all items in one of the variant groups?

also, do the different framing options effect the price in any way --
if so, how exactly are the options handled with respect to the link
landing-page and the specific variant?

what does the products-tab indicate with respect to the disapproval?

has a reevaluation of the feed and website been requested?
