Re-Enabling Paused Keywords Due to Low Search Volume

I set up the following automated rules for a client account:
1. Pause KW w/ low search volume weekly
2. Pause KW w/ QS < 5
3. Pause KW w/ 0 clicks in the last 30 days.

Now, I'd like to set up an automated rule that rechecks my paused keywords due to low search volume and enables those that become eligible. How would I go about doing that without messing up my other pause rules? For example say "keyword a" was paused due to LSV and had a QS of 4. Its become eligible but then QS would still be 4. Would it be affected?

Hi Angeli,

All you need to decide is how to treat keywords where low search volume doesn't apply, but low QS does.

You can add multiple requirements to an automated rule, like this:

1. Pause KW w/ low search volume AND QS < 5 (weekly)
2. Un-pause KW that is NOT low search volume (weekly)

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the response. However, I'm not sure I follow. I'm looking at the page where you create a new automation rule I can't seem to find the option to both have a pause and un-pause action in one rule.

This is what my set up looks like right now.

I just wanted to make sure my set up made sense and would not bring up any conflicts.

Hi Angeli,

(Sorry, I don't have access to the image you linked to)

Apologies if I was unclear.

You cannot have pause and un-pause actions in one rule.

You can have multiple requirements in a rule, so pause keywords if this requirement is met, and this other requirement.

So my example above was to have one pause rule, and one un-pause rule.

In your original example, there would be a conflict - un-pausing because the LSV had gone, and then pausing because it was still below QS5. The timing of the two rules would determine how often the keyword would be active for.

Ah right, I thought this was what you meant. Thanks for the clarification.

So based on your example above:
1. Pause KW w/ low search volume AND QS < 5 (weekly)
2. Un-pause KW that is NOT low search volume (weekly)

how would I address the keywords that were Low Search Volume but had a QS > 5? Since I want to pause all keywords with a low search volume. Correct me if I am wrong but the way I understand "1. Pause KW w/ low search volume AND QS < 5 (weekly)", is that AdWords will look through all my keywords, find the ones that are BOTH low search volume AND QS < 5 and those are the only things that it will pause weekly. But then if a KW is already LSV but QS > 5 from the start it won't be paused. Did I understand that correctly?

Keep your current rules as they are, but just change the order in which they occur.

Change Re-enable paused KW in the past 60 days to 1 AM
Change Pause Keywords w QS < 5 KW to 2 AM

That way

Low volume and no click keywords will be paused
Then any that have become eligible will be un-paused
Then any with QS < 5 will be paused

The end result is that any that have become eligible but with QS < 5 will stay paused (except for one hour in the middle of the night).

And those that have become eligible with QS of 5 or more will be un-paused.

Hi Angeli,

I've been struggling with an issue of LSV keywords. Just out of curiosity, would you mind sharing with me how you set up the rule?

Thank you!

Hey Honza,

This applies to "All enabled keywords" with automatic action being "Pause keywords".

My requirements are: "Status" matches any "Low Search Volume"

Frequency is Weekly, Monday, 12AM using data from last week mon-sun.
