Hello ! Welcome to the Community !

This is the definition for the first page bid :

https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/105665?hl=en

1) When you start a new account , if you have no Ads defined and only keywords, your first page bids will be extremely high, up to some unrealistic amounts, but once you generate some ads and a few hours go by, they will decrease.

2) The main things to do to decrease this cost are :

a) Do not use "normal language" in keywords, because in adwords it means "broad match" , instead use keywords with + signs in front of words or phrase matches or exact matches as defined here

b) Use negative keywords to match your user's intent better, when they travel from keyword to Ads to your website.

Simply put, it means that your Max Cost Per Click bid is not high enough to show your ads normally on the first page of search results.

As a result, your ads will show only on the rare occasion that users click through to deeper search results pages or when the other advertisers' budgets are depleted for the day or their ad delivery is being staggered.

You should use Adrian's suggestions if you want to increase your ad visibility and clicks.

But what if my avg ad position is showing 3 or better, right next to a designation that my bid is below first page? Is this a case of prediction vs. actual not being in alignment?
