Hi Charles,

I think I know where you are coming from - the Keyword Planner shows plenty of searches for forensic psychologist, yet you are getting few clicks.

This would be because most people using those keywords are looking to become a forensic psychologist, not hire one.

In addition to @RobSkelton great suggestions, make sure that you are not biding low or QS is low for your keywords and your campaign budget is not very low.

In both the cases you will loose the ad impressions and consequently you will get very few clicks.

Include below mentioned metrics to analyse if you are not loosing impressions due to any of the reason shared above:

  • Search Lost IS (rank): available at campaign, ad group and keyword level

To apply: campaign/ad group/keywords tab >> columns >> modify columns >> competitive metrics >> add Search Lost IS (rank) >> apply.

  • Search Lost IS (budget): available at campaign level

To apply: Campaigns >> columns >> modify columns >> competitive metrics >> Search Lost IS (rank) >> apply.

Thanks so much, I actually do get a few phone messages a month from
students wanting to interview me for class projects and occasionally a
graduate student looking for a fieldwork placement. So there is validity to
your comment. But all my competition including most established forensic
psychologists and psychiatrists use the internet and AdWords- spending much
more on AdWords than I do. So they must be successful to an extent.
Although my AdWords campaign is not producing at all, my websites do bring
attorneys to me when they do a search.so any ideas on how I can increase
clicks, still only a few a day, with no conversions. Thanks

Sorry, Rob and Archit responded before my response posted. Your response Charles, in response to their responses, has provided some more information. Smiley Happy

If I were "a betting man" I would put dollars to pesos that the combination of competition, bids, and budget are "yer problum". Some areas are more competitive than others. As a rule, any time education, and the rates of skilled professionals come into the equation - You have to pay through the nose to be #1.

Here's my concern: "...my websites do bring attorneys to me when they do a search."

Websites? Plural?

From which traffic sources? To which site(s)?

You absolutely should be valuing conversions over clicks. But, where are your conversions coming from - As of this very moment?

If you know what works for you, but you don't do "that" when it comes to your advertising, your advertising will never be profitable.

You have all the skills necessary to figure this out. In fact, you are more qualified than most of us to do this AdWords thing. Smiley Happy Do what you would do in any other situation as a scientist. Analyze, hypothesize, test, and analyze some more. Smiley Happy That's the only way any of us ever get any actual answers.

So, what about Archit's advice? What kind of impression share numbers do you have?

Thanks for the confidence you have that I can learn this. I do not even
know what impression percentages are. Where do you suggest I start my
learning curve?

The place to start would be with the AdWords help documentation. Read EVERYTHING, and use your account as a study aide to help you learn.

While you are studying, set your daily budget to an amount you can afford to experiment with for at least 90 days.
