I am guessing Google don't refund mistakes?

I just made a huge booboo. I added a negative keyword as a regular keyword, which cost several hundred pounds in a few minutes, insane!

I cannot believe people even clicked the ad, as it almost definitely had nothing to do with their bloody search term.

I am guessing there's nothing I can do in these situations, other than to suck it up?

Google were actually really good about the situation and offered a credit. But it was my mistake and I'd have fully understood them not offering help.
