How do you know if Search Volume is low today OR Ad not performing?

Hi,

The ads used to perform well but all of a sudden since past few days the clicks have reduced. Now, for today (and even yesterday) there are not more than 10-15 people on website (earlier it has crossed 40 for more than 25 days).

All keywords, adgroups etc are same like before, no change in quality score or anything. Could the low clicks / visits because there is low search going on for the related keywords on Google? How do I find that?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Hi Chris, I think there's a clue in your own answer here.

"I had been making many changes like mad..."

AdWords really doesn't respond well to very frequent changes.  You might well be advised just to let things settle for a while.

Traffic volume can vary dramatically in Google from one time frame to the next. Have you tracked your search volume in the past--do you have data to compare to so that you can decide for yourself that at this season or this time of the month, search volume seems to drop off?

I assume you've also checked your ads to make sure nothing has gone wrong there, and that you've re-reviewed the most recent changes you've made to your campaign to see if any of them could be the cause of this.

More generally, I'd need to know for how long you've been seeing this--a day or two isn't really a long enough perioed of time to become concerned about. If it's been going on for a week or more and no adjustments you've made to the campaign could have caused it (pausing ads, adding negative keywords, changing ad targeting, lowering bids, etc.), then we'd need to dig deeper.

Hi,

Thanks for your response

The traffic has been going down and down and down since past 9 days. And since past two days it has hit the bottom.

But more importantly, there was a major problem in servers. The domain name was pointing to two IPs (one from the past which was never deleted) due to which users were getting 404 errors for two days. Traffic went low from that day (I had to pause ads as well). It was likely that if you clicked on ads during those two days you would get a 404 instead of the home page.

Though the technical error was resolved but the traffic and sales never recovered. Since then I had been making many changes like mad so that I get the traffic back but its going down and down :-(.

Not sure if that is the only reason but that was the major thing that happened. Otherwise I had added few keywords from the search term report. not sure if that matters.
