How To Restrict An Adwords Video Campaign to YouTube Only

Hi, I'm an experienced adwords advertiser but I'm stuck on something.

I'm trying to restrict an Adwords For Video campaign to only YouTube.

You can see here the targeting group "display" .. it's paused, but you can see that today I had 606 website clicks... And to me this implies that the ad was shown across the GDN, not just on YouTube -- because to my understanding, YouTube ads should always go to my channel, not to my website.

and here is my settings page, showing the targeting settings of this targeting group

and here are the ad settings

So what am I doing wrong? Why am I getting GDN placements still?

Hi ghengis,

This looks like a Youtube technical issue - I'm escalating this to a specialist.

You should hear an update soon.

Thanks,

Mini

An adwords specialist wrote me back, and said that I needed to add each website I DID NOT want to show on to my excluded placements list. I believe him, but I think that this is actually a BUG, not a FEATURE

For now, I've turned off everything but in-search becuase I think that's the one that isn't broken for youtube-only targeting.

Here was the Adwords rep. response:

Here is the reason why your ads are still showing on other Placements :

Currently only the In-Search and In-Stream ads are approved. So when it comes to In-Search ads, they will only run on Youtube by default. On the other hand TrueView in-stream videos can appear on YouTube Videos (Watch pages on YouTube), on video publisher pages in the Google Display Network (includes YouTube), and on video publisher pages outside the network.

So for In-Stream what we can do is add the Placements that you do not want on your Excluded Lists.
