Does the ad compete with each other under one Ad Group if I use the same headline but have different ad text copy?

Hi Cecile,

No, Ads will not compete against each other in the Adwords auction.

They are selected to show when a keyword in your account wins the auction, based on your ad rotation settings.

So you can use the same headline with different text copy.

Hope this helps,

Deepak

Not only CAN you do this - you SHOULD do this as part of your testing. Switching headlines and body copy is a great way to see which combination works best for you.

The big problem with the same headline and different ad text is with the analytics reports. When you view ad content, you only see the headline, not the text. Something I will routinely do is change punctuation to help identify different ad text/landing pages, etc. for the same headline ad.

For example:
Headline
Headline,
Headline.
Headline:
{Headline} - Always be careful with DKI ads!
