IMO, May be a new competitor is trying to break into the niche or current competitors have raised bids in an effort to grab a larger market share. Also, could you check whether your average position has decreased at the same time, and from what position to what position?

There could be many reasons:
I would say the most likely would be a decrease in ad-rank (though you increased the bid), or keywords that are irrelevant. So, I would first check these. (i.e QS, Bid and keyword)
