Custom Search Ads, Latest Changes = Totally Non-relevant Adwords?

I do not know, whether it's a new feature from AdWords team, or madness of Search Partners connected to AdWords ads, but I have seen pretty insane ads on 2nd tier search engines and content sites using Custom Search Ads in last weeks. For example :

http://www.zapmeta.com/?vid=l938914614I1417789074&template=&asid=0028450762&awc=&de=&q=ask.fm

http://www.hledat.com/web?q=ask.fm

http://www.zapmeta.com/?vid=l938914614I1417789568&template=&asid=0028450762&awc=&de=&q=walmart.ca

It seems like Google is now providing very different ads based on ,,similar keywords", for example walmart.ca is clearly returning ads for ,,Mart Wal" :

Looking for Mart Wal? - Mart Wal is on Facebook‎
www.facebook.com/‎
Sign up now!

I can provide tons of samples, where the new ,,auto-typo-clearing" mechanism (as launched in late summer I think) is doing really bad job - moreover, I see totally different ads and it shakes with AdWords campaigns a lot. Will there be any update on this?

Hello,

To be honest with you, I am not even sure whether the sites you have mentioned does belong to Google Search Partners list or not because there is no official documentation giving away a list of Search Partner websites that are non-Google : https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6080569?rd=1

Just in case, if you are referring to this in context with your AdWords campaigns, you can disable the Search Partners option from the campaign settings if you feel that results are not worth from the search partners.

Hi Pankaj,
I know it's possible to shut partners down. I also know, that the list is not public. But :
1) if you hover over the ad links, http://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk is the target link - that's probably sign of AdWords?
2) I know that if I tried to bid on some keywords, they appeared here - so AdWords, really.

The problem is it's totally non-relevant for some query types. Try :
http://www.peeplo.com/web/wwwyoutubecom/
http://www.peeplo.com/web/hotelrieger.cz/ (The searched query on is client's web, with totally non-relevant ads assigned to it).

I take care about Search partners, because I have few clients who received solid conversions even from Search partners, but now it seems like broad match is little bit more than ,,old" broad match. For example, in the link above, is seems like AdWords engine parse hotelrieger.cz as ,,hotel,, and ,,rieger,, phrases, takes rieger and puts nonsense as a PPC feed. Note that even AdWords reps suggest to bid on own brand terms, but is it worth to bid higher because of these crap? (I know how QS works, but this change probably caused little shake in some traffic sources and ad positions)

Hello again,

Why don't you try more restrictive match type keywords (Broad modifiers, phrase and exact match types) for your search campaigns?

Reason being that Broad match type is the least restrictive type and you cannot really control for which query your ad might trigger an ad. So it would be a challenge for you to optimize your campaigns on Google search as well, if we keep Search Partners aside.

As per my understanding if you tend to bid on more restrictive match type keywords, possibility is that you will get more relevant traffic from Google search as well Search Partners.

Does that helps?

Pankaj

Pankaj, it's not about match type - I understand it's possible to change it. However, current state, where 90% of keywords on partners sites is working differently, is not good by my opinion. Imagine you work on an account on AdWords for a year and one day, almost all performing keywords change. I did not start this thread as I am not searching for solution for one account - it's more like theoretical question.
I would just need some clarification, whether (for example) bidding on keyword ,,walmart"
http://www.peeplo.com/web/walmart-com/
is really mispelling of ,,Wal art" and vice versa. After a short searching, I can find tons of currently non-relevant ads, that probably come from bad parsing of search query. As I have seen, it's mostly visible on long-tail keywords, where it definitelly does look like ,,better to fill all ad slots with anything than a few relevant ads". One example at the end (as I am pretty long working in travel industry).
http://www.info.com/media%20fire%20legal?cb=10&cmp=4356
Look at the source keyword and final ad, booking.com and ad triggered by ,,Firá" for ,,media fire" keyword. This is pretty new change, and I am really confident this won't convert .] From what I remember few queries, ad feeds was totally different.

Thank you.
