Close variant negative keywords

my targeted keyword is "communication tool" but I don't want my ads to appear for a word "communicate"

My question is, if I add navigate as broad match negative keyword, will it stop showing results for all close variants including navigation.

E.g if some someone searches for "best communication tools" and I've already added "communicate" as a broad match negative keyword, will my ads appear for this search term?

Thanks!

Raj

Your ads might not appear.
Better to have a test by adding it as negative, you will see a notification in adwords regarding keyword conflict confirming that this negative keyword is restricting the ads to trigger.

from my understanding, there are no close variants for negative keywords. You should not have any problems. I can recall a couple of times where i needed to add the plural of a word as negative, but not the singular version. I had no problems with my ad serving when the singular version was included in the query.

Thanks @David Kyle

I was also thinking about the same thing but wasn't sure if the negative broad match works in the same fashion as broad keywords does, or there is some different approach. Thanks!

Hello,

If I will use "tutor job for 14 year old" as a phrase negative kw, and people search "tutor jobs for 14 year old" (plural), so my phrase negative kw will work for close variant or not?

or I need to create a separate phrase negative for plural kw.
