We have had our site SEO,ed and checked to perform on Adwords but page insites reports the following. The compnay who set it up said these are of little importance Google tends to differ, what is the truth?

Hi Auction H,

It makes a difference in page load time. That difference could be big, could be small. Let's look at a couple of these:

Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content: This allows your content to appear sooner. The idea is to include inline style sheets for all items above the fold, then provide external stylesheets at the end to form stuff below the fold. If you don't need the JS to render the page, put it all at the end of the page. Page rendering is suspended when loading external JS and/or CSS files.

Leverage browser caching: For pages with static content, brower caching can make a big difference, mostly for returning visitors. If your images don't change often, a cache time of a minimum of 10 days. If you need to change an image on a page, use a different name to the browser will pickup the new image. If your JavaScript and CSS files don't change often, set a cache time of at least 10 days. I include a version number in the links for these resources. ( Update the version number to force a download of the newer version. Setting a cache time is fairly simple to do.

Optimize images: This depends on how many images are on a page and the sizes of those images. Images can be compressed quite a bit without losing quality. That compression can save on a lot of data being transmitted. Look at the percentage and the number of bytes saved with compression, and consider and loss of quality when deciding whether to optimize your images.

Minify JS, CSS, HTML: The more you have the more minifying will help. Minifying involves removing unnecessary white space.

All of the above can affect your page load times, and that will also affect your QS as well as your organic rank. Faster page loads improves your position in mobile search as well, provided your site is "mobile-friendly". The order of importance is basically as listed above. Do what you can, don't obsess over the rest.
