Ad position with competitors

Hi there,

Can your advert positions for your own keywords drop if you choose not to bid on competitor keywords.

It seems that since October (when I stopped bidding on competitors keywords) that my advert positions have dropped.

If anyone has an idea about this question it would be much appreciated.

David

Hi @david j,

Your ad position is determined by the Ad rank which is calculated using your bid amount, the components of Quality Score (expected clickthrough rate, ad relevance, and landing page experience), and the expected impact of extensions and other ad formats.

Ad Rank is recalculated each time your ad is eligible to appear and competes in an auction, so your ad position can fluctuate each time depending on your competition at that moment.

So pausing/stop advertising on some keywords will not impact the ad's position.

Check and analyse the QS, bids and other factors like avg. position and optimize the campaigns to get better ad positions.

Another reason may be increase in the number of competitors in the past 2 months.
