MyB Listings changed name by it self, ..a Google bug????

Hello,

can someone please help.

First of all thank you for hearing me out and if some one knowledgable can help I would be very grateful. Please allow me to explain the problem and frustration my friend and I is having relating to Google my business listing bug.

I have a friend and he just acquired a new apartment in the Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, Australia, called Moorings on Cavill (www.mooringsoncavill.com.au). He bought it from this Lady who in turn bought it from a guy that owned it (approx 1-2 year ago). After selling the business he bought another apartment Spectrum Holiday Apartments (www.spectrumholidayapartments.com). At the time, Moorings on Cavill had a Google my business listings, and since the lady was not IT minded she didn't know why whenever a search on "Moorings on Cavill" was done on Google.com.au, on the right side "Spectrum holiday apartments" would appear instead of Moorings on Cavill. The listings was simply gone. The lady also told my friend who had just bought the apartment that it was a Google BUG. My friend approached the web agency that is responsible for the Spectrums website and who once was the webmaster of Moorings (but no more), he claims it is a Google bug and nothing can be done about it. So for quite sometime there had been Two Spectrum listings. The owner of the previous Mooring also claimed that there was only one accounts listing not two accounts.

I did a check and I found out that there may have been two google accounts used for each spectrum my listings (instead of only one). Then I thought perhaps the original account has been changed from Moorings to Spectrum ? or could it have been a bug from Google?

I have made some screen shots 4 images (sorry i dont know the Google plus account used or its URL), the 4 print screens can be found here

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4k02smk6e3wkm2p/AADnnt3e51_rAH26SS2arkO1a?dl=0

the Google listings of Spectrum when phrase "Moorings on cavill" is searched and when Spectrum listing when Spectrum apartment is searched. My guess is the account has been tampered with deliberately. But since I could not see the Google account used for both, I am not 100% sure.

My question is
1. Could it be a Google bug?
2. How could get a hold of the account. How do we claim ownership.

3. If it wasn't a bug, why would Google allow this?

If we claim access wouldn't google reject us since we are moorings on Cavill requesting a Spectrum Google listing account? (which I think was once a moorings on Cavill apartment account but had been changed. please can anybody confirm this?)

thanks, and appreciate anybodies help in this matter.

again thank you,

Kind Regards

Dhita

Hi @Horacio D

In answer to your question: "Wha is Googles policy on this issue, should we claim the business listings and would Google let us have access" - this is very much against Google's guidelines.

I've spoken with a fellow TC about this situation and in addition to the Google+ page that I found earlier:https://plus.google.com/111865588041478541059/posts, he has managed to find another Google+ page: https://plus.google.com/100651729025361550119/about which is verified and linked to Maps.

So there's at least two pages floating around for your business, but neither are showing up in a local search.

At this point you're going to need to speak with GMB support via one of the options at https://support.google.com/business/contactflow. They need to remove this page: https://plus.google.com/111865588041478541059/posts from the Local database as it is a duplicate page and may be causing problems. They are also the only one who can see why Spectrum's Knowledge Panel is coming up when people search for Moorings on Cavill, rather than the information from this page: https://plus.google.com/100651729025361550119/about

@Darren S - to get a more appropriate location map on your website have your web designer use this embed code for the map: <iframe src="https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d4536.9162873880605!2d153.42457763747802!3d-28.... width="600" height="450" frameborder="0" style="border:0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That will show up the true location of Moorings rather than Spectrum.

I'm very sorry I wasn't able to help you to a full solution on this forum but it has got to the stage where the people with the back-end access need to get involved!

Hi @Horacio D

Although I can't see the screen image either (like @Helmut Geissler), i don't think your friend should have any Google+ listing at all.

From the description and looking at the website it sounds like this is a serviced apartment that he rents out on a short-term basis? If that is the case then Google's guidelines specifically prohibit him setting up a Google+ local listing:

The following businesses aren’t eligible for a local page:

  • Businesses that are under construction or that have not yet opened to the public.
  • Rental or for-sale properties, such as vacation homes, model homes or vacant apartments. Sales or leasing offices, however, are eligible for verification.

All of Google's guidelines are here: https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177?hl=en&ref_topic=4540086

I recommend not pursuing this any further as you will be breaking guidelines, and even if you do successfully manage to put up a listing it will eventually be penalised by Google.

Hi PriyaC
thank you for your reply
I checked the guidelines, and this apartment has always been open to the public and not under construction
it is a short term rental, and it would be like any vacation rentals the guideline says eligible for verification?
our apartment is the similar as www.spectrumholidayapartments.com apartment and they have a google my business listings account (perhaps two accounts, could you help confirm this) this is the new images i uploaded https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4k02smk6e3wkm2p/AADnnt3e51_rAH26SS2arkO1a?dl=0

thank you

Hi @Horacio D

I'm not sure which guidelines you looked at but the ones I linked to, quite clearly state three different types of business that aren't eligible for a local page:

"The following businesses aren’t eligible for a local page:

  • Businesses that are under construction or that have not yet opened to the public.
  • Rental or for-sale properties, such as vacation homes, model homes or vacant apartments. Sales or leasing offices, however, are eligible for verification.
  • An ongoing service, class, or meeting at a location that you don't own or have the authority to represent. Please coordinate with your host to have your information displayed on the page for their business within their "Introduction" field."

The second point (which I've bolded) clearly states that rental properties like vacation (holiday) homes, model homes or vacant apartments (like your friend's place) are not eligible. If Spectrum Holiday Apartments is running a similar business and have a Google+ page then they too are breaking Google's guidelines.

HI Priya C ,this is John the unfortunate owner of this problem. First thanks you for taking the time to advise as this is really appreciated.
This is a boutique hotel complex that has apartments for nightly rental by the general public..we have 73 apartments so this may help in your advice.
The owner of Spectrum owned this business and sold to the previous owners ..he now refused to take down this blatant advertising ..what do you recommend we do ??

Hi @Darren S/John,

Thank you for that additional information. From your post I take it you own the entire building and would like this Google+ page to come up when people search for it?

https://plus.google.com/111865588041478541059/posts

(My apologies for the confusion @Horacio D - i thought you were talking about one flat, not an entire building).

Hi PriyaC

Yes that is correct, John has already mentioned that he owns the whole building

" this Google+ page to come up when people search for it?
https://plus.google.com/111865588041478541059/posts"

Yes that is correct, but currently when you search for Moorings on Cavill, what shows up is Spectrum holiday apartment. My question is, could this have been a bug or someone deliberately tempering with the data.
I am guessing that the G+ account had been the one Moorings on Cavill was using before.
Wha is Googles policy on this issue, should we claim the business listings and would Google let us have access
(would this be assure that we would have access without explaining all the details and history above ?)

Thanks Priya C
we are the new owners of this management business of the MOORINGS Apartments
the previous owners sold and now operate a similar business in close location called SPECRTUM APARTMENTS.
the issue is their new Spectrum Business is advertising on our site \Alos they have a Google Map link on our web site and our customers when they look for directions on Google Map on our web site..see LOCATION on www.mooringsononcavill.com.au and they get directed to the Spectrum apartments
they say its not their fault and don't know how to remove it ??/
I hope you can help ??...thanks John Darren
