how can I seed shopping ads in target country if my location is not in the target country

I am located in Australia and have Google Shopping ads running in a website harmonyballpendant.com targeting USA - when I browse 'Google.com search' using any of the appropriate keywords I see listings as they do appear in the USA as if I was located there. However when I select 'Shopping' Google defaults to shopping ads for Australia, i.e. defaults to my location even though I am still connected to Google.com and not google.com.au in the browser bar.

I can understand this .... to a point .... the problem being that I have no way of knowing where in Google Shopping my ads are situated, I cannot tell if they are on page 1 or on page 432 so it is impossible for me to adjust my budget for cost per click to have my ads situated where I would like them to appear.

Is there a solution to this?
cheers, Mike

the short answer is no.

currently, google offers no such specific facility or feature.

for very high ranking shopping-ads -- that may show
on google-search for highly relevant search-terms --
the ad-preview-and-diagnosis-tool does allow such
country-specific re-targeting options for both locale

and google-domain and may show shopping-ads;

but, currently, the tool will not show shopping-ads

that are under any google/shopping domain.

just to emphasize, most any search, that returns shopping-ads,

has the potential of negatively effecting quality and performance
in the google-shopping-ad-auctions over time, and cannot return

what all other users may be seeing in terms of the competition --

google's shopping-ad selection can simply be highly personalized.

live searches are usually not the best indicator

of reality in the auctions, despite appearances.

in terms of adjusting shopping-ad bids based on statistical data related to
visual, empirical, search-results on google-shopping, the competition, and
larger competitive landscape on google-shopping, the best likely course is
to consider using the related metrics and tools that are currently available --
such as impression-share, click-share, benchmark-ctr, benchmark-cpc, and
the bid-simulator.

also, google may be contacted so that a shopping-ads support-specialist

can look directly into the account, and offer account-specific guidance
based on specific goals and shopping-ad competitive metrics and tools.

as was indicated, google's official feedback form

is usually the best way to request future features

based on current deficiencies.

Hi @Mike O,

It is not advised to actually search for your ads in Google Search. When you do, you are affecting the quality score of your own AdWords campaigns. You would use your account dashboard to determine adjustments to optimize.

Take a look at these article about optimization.

Google Help File - Monitor & Optimize Shopping Ads.

Search Engine Land - Optimization Shopping Campaigns.

WordStream - Shopping Ads - Tips & Tricks.

With that said, with a URL search parameter you can make Google search return results near any certain location — just add &near=cityname to your query string, where cityname is your desired locality.

Give this a try: copy & paste food &near= Tokyo and you will see that you are now in Tokyo.

Kind Regards,

James

Just to add to @James_Clemens, unfortunately the near query string does not work as expected from a different country. As of 3rd of October there is no way of viewing shopping ads from a different country using your IP and the native google website.

I'm referencing my own issue below

https://www.en.advertisercommunity.com/t5/Google-Shopping-and-Merchant/Google-Shopping-Results-Remov...

However just to not confuse the matter, it is indeed best to use Google Adwords data rather than visually looking for your own ads as you are sabotaging your own quality ranking in a negative way.

hope it helps

Hello J Clemens,

I think possibly you may have misunderstood my issue or I have not explained it properly (in fact the question title should have said 'see' and not 'seed' [😊] )

I am not searching for my ads specifically - I am searching for a 'keyword' result ... then ..... clicking the 'shopping' tab at the top of the results page to view the shopping ad results for that keyword which would allow me to see where and how my ads sit in those shopping ad search results. I need to do this because I do not want to blindly adjust CPC bidding just based on number of clicks or conversions as that data would be inconsequential in determining where my ads actually sit on a page or pages. Additionally I need to see who my competitors are on a page or pages.

As stated, I can select to search Google.com from Australia as such overriding the default country of location search however selecting the shopping tab overrides that override.

The url proximity thing won't work as I am talking about a whole country, not just a city.

So the question should be; is there a way to obviate Google automatically defaulting shopping ads to country of location instead of target country you are searching in? (i.e. logged in to Google.com but Google shows shopping ad results from Google.com.au)

cheers,

Mike

Hi @Mike O,

Sorry for the additional info that did not provide help.

Unfortunately, changes Google made prevents any known workaround from working. Check out the info and link @Emmanuel F and you will see there are others frustrated by this, too.

With that said, I will suggest anyone with this issue to use this feedback info to tell Google what is happening and what you would like to see. Also use this AdWords feedback form to do the same.

Kind Regards,

James

Just to reinforce what James has said, I have tried all known and published methods that I could find online, of "spoofing my location" in order to "virtually" use AdWords from another physical location.  There are a number of known methods, and some of them get pretty technical.  However, I have never found anything that works.

Your problem is a little different, as detailed above; but i don't think it'll be possible to resolve it by spoofing your location.  Unless you're pretty technical and you take a different approach than what's obvious (browser geo settings, add-ons, etc).

It may be possible, but if so it is not a simple matter.
