Valuetrack parameter {keyword} for shopping ads?

Hi

When I use the valuetrack parameter {keyword} in Google Shopping ads the keywords comes up empty.

My tracking template looks like this: {lpurl}?keyword={keyword}  and it works for search ads.

I went through several help articles like those, but there is no clear answer.

Is there a way to get it to work with Google Shopping ads at all?

Thanks

Aleks

Hi Alev,

The {keyword} ValueTrack is for Search Network and DIsplay Network at this time. All available shopping ValueTracks can be found at the end of this page:

I've never tested this, but you should be able to find the related keyword if you have Adwords linked with Google Analytics. From GA, you can probably create custom reports or Secondary Dimension to see they Keywords related to your shopping clicks.

Hope this helps.

Hi Leandro

I need to grab the keyword parameter on the landing page, Analytics will not help.

I was not sure if the parameters on that help page (https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6305348?hl=en) are just additional parameters or all parameters for Google Shopping. If that is the case than there is no solution.

In any way I really wonder why AdWords is not able to pass that keyword parameter on to the Google Shopping ads. It seems like an easy thing.

Thanks
Aleks

the short answer is no.

the {keyword} value-track parameter are the words an advertiser creates,
within the account, to target a customer, that triggers an advertisement --
not the search-terms that a customer types when searching.

product-listing-ads do not use keywords -- the {keyword} and related
valuetrack-parameters will always be blank for a shopping-campaign.

the search-terms that a customer types, that triggers a (product-listing) ad,
can be seen within the dimensions-tab's view under a shopping-campaign.

Yeah, you won't be able to use {keyword} ValueTracks for Shopping campaigns as stated here:

"If your tracking URL templates include ValueTrack parameters that indicate keyword information, like the parameter {keyword}, then those parameters will be blank for Shopping ads. That's because Shopping ads use product groups and not keywords to show your ads."

Is there any way I can get the actual user query as a parameter?
