Submit Products with a Forced Minimum Quantity

We sell products that we force a minimum quantity on. This means that you can only buy the product if you order the minimum quantity of 4 or if you order in specific multiples of 4 such as 8, 12, 16, etc. Our product pages clearly display a message stating this.


We had our shopping feed suspended because were only submitting the price per unit in the feed as opposed to the total price for the forced minimum quantity products. We corrected the issue and began submitting the total price for the forced minimum quantity for both price and sale price attributes.


Nonetheless, we've recently gotten a notice from Google telling us that we have pricing inconsistencies and specifically flagging these products that have a forced minimum quantity because there is a price mismatch between the feed and the website price.


Multiple Google reps told us we had to submit the unit pricing measure and unit pricing base measure attributes for these products until this was refuted by another member of the AdWords team (who contacted the Merchant Policy team directly).


The last resort would be to update the pricing and titles on our website to reflect the forced minimum quantity on our website. The issue we have with this is that many of our competitor's are getting away with displaying the price per unit instead of the total price even though they are forcing a minimum quantity on their site. This means our pricing would appear to pale in comparison to theirs on PLA placements since we'd be displaying the total price for the forced minimum quantity and they'd be displaying the price for just one unit of product even though they also force a minimum quantity.


If the policy is not going to be enforced equally, then it hurts us from a business standpoint. Everyone should have to play by the same rules and all policies should be enforced equally. We did submit our competitor's for policy violations, but Google does not comment on any submitted violations.


We're unsure of the way forward at this point. Anyone have any pointers dealing with this kind of situation before and how it can be resolved?

when reporting possible policy violations by others be certain to
submit a proper google-provided ad-click (aclk) url link that points
to the retailer's landing-page.

reporting a retailer's landing-page, other links on google-shopping,
or screen-captures, are generally not enough and google is unlikely
to take any action without a proper aclk url.

additionally, for issues related to minimum-quantities and landing-pages,
the submitted price must be straightforward for the user to locate on the
page -- however, google is the final arbiter of straightforward.


google may display a unit-price, calculated automatically by using unit-pricing
attributes -- depending on the context of a product-listing-ad; typically, only
if valid and accurate unit-pricing information is submitted with an item-offer.

there are additional rules, policies, and recommendations,
with respect to unit-pricing that depend on the type of item
and the (registered feed's) target-country.

Hi, we did include the aclk url in the policy violations form with various examples of competitors that were breaking the same policy we were cited for. Our biggest issues right now are:

1) We don't know how to properly list products with a forced minimum quantity on Google Shopping in a way that is in accordance with Google's policies. Even though currently: (A) We are submitting the total price for the forced quantity in the feed (B) The landing page clearly states that the a minimum quantity must be ordered and what that quantity is (C) The price per unit (instead of the total price for the forced minimum quantity) is displayed on the landing page. Google's Product Feed specification clearly states that the landing page may display the price per unit instead of the total price under these circumstances provided conditions (A) and (B) are met. We were told that unit-pricing information attributes are not applicable for the types of products we sell, even though we were initially told by Google reps to use it.

2) Our competitor's are forcing a minimum quantity and they are able to submit the price per unit instead of the total price to Google which is being displayed on their PLAs. This means our total price for the forced minimum appears higher than their price on SERPs even though they are also forcing a minimum quantity. Everyone should have to display the total price for the forced minimum quantity if that is the policy, not just us. Otherwise it results in an uneven playing field.
