I'm experiencing exactly the same problem. My understanding is that a single product can belong in up to five different product types. Although the feed uploads OK to Merchant Centre and shows the multiple product type associations there, Adwords only takes the first one in the list of product types.

Would be great to get an explanation for this.

for an xml feed, all xml special characters within values must be
escaped and conform to google's specifications and guidelines --
e.g.
Apparel > Suits
Apparel > Dress

https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/188494#product_type

shipping_weight must be the weight of the item during shipping -- zero is invalid.

https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/188494#shipping_weight

submitted data cannot contain any special symbols.

56.40 GBP

tab-delimited feed data and xml cannot be mixed in the same file.

Maybe you don't know what I mean.
my xml feed conform to google's specifications and guidelines, and there is any errors.
but Shopping Ads cann't get Multiple product types for my product.
i have a product which belongs to two different Category
Apparel > Suits and Apparel > Dress
so according the Products Feed Specification, i add two <product_type> attributes for the product in the xml Feed. like this:

it works in merchant center, but Shopping Ads can only get the first product types for my product.

Shopping Ads only get the first product type value

Just found this:
"If you submit multiple values separated by a comma, only the first value will be used as the ‘product type’ for your Shopping campaigns."

On the following page:
https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/188494

So what is the point in providing the ability to upload multiple product types?

thank you for experience, i have contact with the google customer service, they tell me the same fact that Adwords only takes the first one in the list of product types, but the other product types will improve the data quality.
