Same MPN for multiple products

I'm getting ready to submit my first feed for mostly mens underwear. My question: One manufacturer uses the same MPN for every color of a particular style. The MPN is BASP17 whether it's the white, black, gold, scarlet or royal blue version. According to Google's Product Feed Specifications, each product has to have a unique MPN. Wondering what is the best way to deal with this situation? Would it be ok to use the same MPN but with the color field filled with each color?

Any help much appreciated!

the required global-trade-data (mpn, gtin, brand)
depends mainly on the type of physical product
being submitted.

apparel clothing does not require mpn;
apparel clothing does not require gtin;
apparel clothing requires only a valid and accurate brand
value, as assigned by the manufacturer, to the exact item
being sold -- all merchants selling the same item should
be submitting the exact same global-trade-data values.

there is no requirement to submit mpn for apparel, clothing, items.

if an (optional for apparel) mpn value is submitted then,
the value must be exactly as the manufacturer has assigned.

duplicate mpn values are not allowed unless
(a) the manufacture has assigned the same mpn to all variants;
and (b) the items are submitted as proper variants -- e.g. with an
identical item_group_id value for all items in the variant group and
at least one unique variant attribute-value per group (e.g. color).

color variants also require a separate, unique, image_link value.

otherwise, mpn must be submitted as assigned by the product's

manufacturer -- which is typically unique per (non-variant) item.

only a manufacturer can assign valid global-trade-data --
all merchants must submit valid, accurate, global-trade-data.

i am also having the same problem I am about to submit my product feed to google through my website but am using a dropshipper who uses the same product code can be converted to MPN. Can I create my own MPN so as to get my own traffic to my website ? As using the same MPN like my manufacturer will direct my business or traffic to my wholesaler or dropshipper. thanks

simply, no -- global-trade-data cannot be self-assigned by merchants.

global-trade-data is mainly a legal designation --
all merchants selling the same item must submit
the same identical global-trade-data as assigned
by the manufacturer to the exact item being sold.

only physical inventory items are allowed to be submitted;

the global-trade-data (unique-product-identifier) attributes,

of brand, gtin or mpn, together, allows an exact, specific,

product to be mapped to an exact, specific, manufacturer --

regardless of merchant.

generally, the items must be removed from the submitted data
(feed) until the proper global-trade-data is located -- or verified
to not exist (not assigned by the manufacturer).

as an aside, most products fulfilled through a drop-ship
consolidator or any similar supply-chain are not allowed,
regardless of any global-trade-data policies.
