Hi Google-Team and community,

the en-US product taxonomy has round about 6.200 rows, the cn-ZH only 4.500.

Will be provided a current version of cn-ZH (for chinese native speaker)?

Regards

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Not sure I understand your question.

Are you asking if the Chinese taxonomy will match the en-US one?

Hi Coco,

no :-)

I'm asking, why all taxonomies (e.g. en-US, en-GB) have round about 6200 rows, only the cn-ZH has 4.500 and was last refreshed beginning 2012. So I could offer my chinese speaking customers only 4.500 product categories or I have to translate the en-US taxonomy to chinese.

Will be provided a refreshed version of cn-ZH taxonomy?

Regards,
Thomas

aside from the refresh issue --

for product_type the value may be almost any
value you wish that accurately categorizes the
physical item -- so does not need to follow
google's exact taxonomy.

importantly, product_type may also be used by google
within the adwords (shopping) campaign so be certain
to use values that will help in that regard.

for the google_product_category attribute; if there is no current
value within cz-ZH that accurately classifies the product exactly,
simply use the highest-level (exact google-defined) value that

best categorizes the physical item; for example, (in english)
Health & Beauty
then, use product_type to more accurately classify the item.

also, (only) for google_product_category (all) english values may be used.

Hi Celebird,

thanks for your reply.

Yes, it is possible to use the english values, so I have to translate the en_US to chinese.

Thomas

first, you're welcome.

unfortunately that is simply not allowed -- the en_US values cannot be

translated to any other language for use in google_product_category;

the values must either all english (exactly as google defines in en_US)

or all in the language of the target-country using only the target-country

google-defined values -- the values cannot be translated and otherwise

can result in the items being rejected.

regardless of language (all english or all native-language) --

google_product_category may use the top-level value

and does not need to be an exact match for the item.

for product_type almost any value may be used --
but must be in the language of the target-country;
there is no need to use any google-defined value;

but of course, if there is no existing private typology,

the google values may be used and may be translated

to any language for use as a product_type.

the google_product_category and product_type attributes

have rather different rules and policies for submtting values.

Hi Celebird,

of course it is allowed to translate the en_US values, I could translate everything ;-) . It is not allowed to use my own translation for google shopping. But if I create a matching table chinese <--> english my customers could use the chinese words and I will use the matched english equivalent.

Regards,
Thomas

for google_product_category translations are not allowed to be submitted --

google checks if the value is listed within the native-languge set of values

and may otherwise eventually be rejected as invalid; of course if translation

means to understand what u.s value is appropriate to use, then of course;

for google_product_category, the values must be either all from google's list

of en_US defined-values or all from google's native-language list of values.

for product_type translations are allowed -- but the translation must be human

and cannot be any form of automated or related machine-language translation.
