Provide bids in the product feed?

Instead of using the product_type, custom_label_0, categorize an item and determine the its bid, I wish Google would simply provide a field in the product feed which would contain the maximum bid for that item.

Hi Thomas, it's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure how useful it would be.   To decide upon an appropriate bid for a product you'd need to refer to its performance data - conversions, rate, ROAS, etc. - and those are only available in AdWords.  So unless you exported data on a regular basis, then performed a match-up and formula of some kind, I'm not sure why including the bid in the feed would be easier than simply changing it in AdWords.


I'd be much happier if we simply got Automated Rule and/or Script access to Shopping Campaigns so that bids could be controlled in the same way they are with non-Shopping Campaigns.  Even the standard bidding strategies (other than Enhanced CPC, which at least is available) would be useful.

per-item bid strategy may become more impractical.

complex product-group design and divisions can be critical in creating
successful bid-strategies as inventory size and complexity increases --
the bids become based more on statistics and identifying outliers.

assigning a cogent bid to a specific item when thousands or millions
of sku are involved can develop into an impractical strategy -- even if
automated bids are considered; except perhaps for the extraordinarily
unique, highest-margin items and similar sets of obvious outliers.

given a well-designed set of product-groups the corresponding
products should simply filtrate into the appropriate bid-bucket.

the trick is to anticipate and model the
future accurately while avoiding myopia.
