Product images in Merchant Centre

Hi all,

We have just started adding our products to the the Merchant Centre so they will appear on searches. However, we seem to have an issue with the product image.

In the Google spreadsheet where you enter the product info, there are 2 columns for links, one for the "Product page" and other for the "Product image".  We entered both links the same, as the image itself does not have an actual link apart from where it's stored in WordPress media section. Is it the media link I should be using as I thought this would not be accessible externally as a link?

Thank you

Sirf

simply navigate to the second link that was posted:
http://www.retrored.co.uk/?attachment_id=9274

then, (right-mouse-button) select: copy-image-location,

view-image-info, view-page-info, or similar -- depending

on what browser is being used.

google wants the jpg file url.

however, woo-commerce-support likely has a much
faster and more efficient way of obtaining the same
information for a google-shopping products-feed.

the value submitted as the image_link url
must point to an exact image (file) of the
product in a supported image format --
such as png or jpg.

for example, a valid image_link value might be:
http://www.example.com/product/images/red-wagon.png

the website and directory (folder) containing the images
must be accessible to and crawlable by google and contain
images that meet all google's specifications -- such as, an
exact image of the product with no watermarks or overlays,
about 300x300 pixels or so, etc.

since product-page and product-image are terms used
by a third-party e-commerce system (not google) the
best likely course would be to contact the third-party
support organization or whoever is supporting the
plug-in being used on the e-commerce system and
whoever is supporting the website in general.

Hi Celebird,

Thanks for your reply.

The request for product image location is from the Google merchant spreadsheet (similar to what you've attached in your links), The product page is a basic WooCommerce template (with a few adjustments) that simply pulls the images through from the media we've uploaded and stored within the back end of the Website.

I don't think we have used a separate plug-in, maybe that's what we need to do so it assigns an external URL for each image. Do you have any ideas around what plugins or alternative solutions we might be able to use?

Thanks again
Sirf

first, you're welcome.

if woo-commerce is being used then, the best likely
course is to contact whoever is supporting that
particular version of woo-commerce and the site
in general.

woo-commerce support would be needed to help
locate the proper image link url and site-support
would be needed to help verify google can access
and crawl all the images being submitted.

if a spreadsheet is used to submit data to the merchant-center
then, the proper attribute is image_link and the proper value is
a supported image (format) url of the product itself; e.g.
http://www.example.com/images/red-wagon.jpg

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_OLU9CT668OA/SqChkOXhzaI/AAAAAAAAAEM/tGA2_EKSac0/s640/clawhammer2001.jpg

posting a specific link landing-page url and a link to
the exact spreadsheet being used, here in the public
forum, may help us offer more specific suggestions --
otherwise, a merchant-center support-specialist at
google may be contacted directly.

the plug-in was merely mentioned because some
merchants use plug-ins -- not that a plug-in is needed;
forum-members cannot look into any account or feed details.

Hi again Celebird,

And thank you once again, for your help.

We'll give it one more shot then I'll have to try and speak to woo commerce support and see what suggestions they have. I think it must be a straight forward solution as everyone does it, seems like i'm totally missing something (possibly a few brain cells) haha!

I have attached a couple of links I have for one product. The 1st is the actual product page and the 2nd is the image, which I think is wrong, but all I can get from WordPress as an external link which Google can read.

I really appreciate your help, it's very kind of you.

yes, contacting woo-commerce support
is the best likely course -- they can likely
describe what most everyone else is dong
for a woo-commerce site.

generally, all that's needed for image_link is the (jpg) url link --
not the landing-page where the image is only part of the page.

that is usually wherever the images are currently located.

for example:
