Product Feed Descriptions - Does it Affect Performance

I have this same question. Should I strip HTML from my product descriptions in my Merchant Center feed? One benefit of this would be leaving more room for content since there is a 5,000 character max. But I'm wondering if Google interprets the HTML in your feed or if they are just reading everything as plain text.

Data feeds should never contain any html markup. So yes remove it. This is also mentioned in the requirements here : https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/6324468

Everything is read as plain text, so including html will make your ads look very odd. Hence why you should remove it. You could use strip_tags if your using PHP.

Hope it helps.
