Hello all,

At Google Shopping, we deeply care about providing a great user experience. Therefore, we enforce a high standard of accurate product information which is shown to our users. Price and availability related inaccuracies are some of the most common data quality issues and can lead not only to lower conversion and click-through rates but also to temporary disapproval of the violating items or suspension of your Merchant Center account from Google Shopping. In today’s post, we will look at how you can provide policy-compliant and accurate information about your products’ pricing and availability.

Clear and conspicuous pricing information:

  1. Price on the landing page has to exactly match the price submitted in your product data.
  2. The price of an item has to be prominently shown on the landing page. In cases where multiple items are on the same landing page, it has to be straightforward for the user to find the correct item and corresponding price.
  3. Products must be displayed in and sold in the currency of the target country. The appropriate currency has to be shown by default if multiple currencies are available.
  4. Depending on country specific requirements, the prices of the items must be inclusive or exclusive of any applicable taxes such as value-added tax (VAT). Please review our tax policy for more information.
  5. If you have products on sale, we recommend to include the 'sale price' attribute and submit the regular price (before sale) in the 'price' attribute. It is also recommended that you submit the 'sale price effective date' attribute in conjunction with the ‘sale price’ to indicate the date range during which the sale price applies.
  6. For products sold in bulk quantities, the total price for the minimum number of items sold must be submitted. For example, in case of a pen that can only be sold in specific quantities, the price for the minimum purchasable quantity needs to be specified in the product data.
  7. To learn more, please visit our Pricing and Payments policy page and the Google Shopping Product Feed specification on the price attribute.

Accurate availability information:

  1. The availability status submitted in your product data must match the product's availability as indicated on the landing page.
  2. The availability attribute has three accepted values:
    1. 'preorder': You’re currently taking orders for this product, but it’s not yet been released. You can use the attribute ‘availability date’ to indicate the day that the product becomes available for delivery.
    2. 'in stock': You’re currently accepting orders for this product and can fulfill the purchase request. You are certain that the item will ship (or be in-transit to the customer) in a timely manner because it is available for sale, such as it’s in stock or available for order.
    3. 'out of stock': You’re currently not accepting orders for this product, or the product is not available for purchase.
  3. To learn more, please visit our  Landing Page Content policy and the Google Shopping Product Feed specification.

How to provide high-quality data?

One of the most common reason for incorrect prices is the time difference between updates on your website and updates of your data on Google Shopping. If you are updating prices on your website very frequently we recommend uploading the feed more often or consider using the Content API which allows you to update individual items. If you've set up your Merchant Center account such that Google fetches the feed from your server, make sure that the scheduled fetch from your server happens at the same time as you update your website. You can find even more information on providing the most up-to-date or fresh data here.

We recently launched automatic item updates in all Merchant Center accounts. Enabling automatic item updates in your account allows us to automatically update your products’ price and availability information on Google Shopping based on the schema.org microdata on your website. You can learn more about implementing schema.org microdata markup by visiting our ‘Microdata for Google Shopping’ page.

Temporary item disapprovals due to inaccurate prices/availability:

If your items are temporarily disapproved due to price or availability mismatches, you will see a notification on the Data Quality tab in your Merchant Center account. You will also be able to view a list of recently affected items and more information on how to fix the price mismatches. A report with a list of all recently disapproved items can also be downloaded in the Data Quality tab. However, if you’ve enabled automatic item updates in your Merchant Center account, items with mismatched price and availability will be updated rather than temporarily disapproved. But for this to work, the microdata should be valid, and show no warnings in the Structured Data Testing Tool.

Account suspension due to inaccurate prices/availability:

Account suspension for price and availability related data quality violations is usually preceded by an account suspension warning. The warning email we send contains a sample of violating items and a timeframe to fix the violations. Currently, this warning period is not displayed in your Merchant Center account.

If the violations are not resolved by the deadline, your account will be suspended and all items consequently removed from Google Shopping. The suspension status is viewable in your Google Merchant Center Dashboard. Please refer to our previous forum post for information on account suspensions.

We hope you found the post helpful. If you have any follow-up questions or suggestions on subjects you’d like us to cover, please do leave a comment and we will be happy to share more insights in the upcoming posts. Thanks!

At least in our niche, this isn't being enforced and hasn't been for months:

6. For products sold in bulk quantities, the total price for the minimum number of items sold must be submitted. For example, in case of a pen that can only be sold in specific quantities, the price for the minimum purchasable quantity needs to be specified in the product data.

Is this just a recommendation or is this a guideline?

Hello Scott,
As per our Pricing and Payments policy, "For products sold in bulk quantities, total price for the minimum number of items sold must be submitted. The landing page can also list the minimum quantity and the price per unit instead of the total price for the minimum number of items sold."

There are a few exceptions which are clearly listed out on the policy page: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/2704164
Please reply back if you have any more questions.

Regards
Pankhi

They charge a Cost per Click. Whenever a user clicks on your product in Google Shopping or Google Search a charge will be placed. It works the same if you know how Google Adwords works.

https://www.google.com/shopping/product/13215128796054244836 In trying to order this item O found that the link provided was only a ploy to deceive the consumer into thinking he was getting a kit while only each item individually was available. I find this practice fraudulent and contemptible. Also very distasteful to me was the fact that while I was attempting to report a violation to google the complaint form would not accept the link to the item from firefox, chrome, or internet explorer,
