No Color Variants for One of a kind Accessories

We sell one of a kind Native Jewelry so we don't have any color variations.  How do we list our jewelry without a color variant?  Our shop is in shopify and we are trying to use the app to sync our feed of products.  thanks,

what is required to be submitted depends both
on (a) the type of physical item and (b) variants --
if there are no variants then, the rules for the
type of item (category) must still be followed.

all jewelry falls under the category:
Apparel & Accessories > Jewelry

therefore, the rules and policies for apparel
accessories (other apparel) must be followed.

such items require a valid color, gender, age_group,
and either a valid brand or identifier_exists FALSE

if there are variants then item_group_id must be identical for all items
in each variant group -- otherwise, if there are no variants (submitted)
then, item_group_id is not required, at all.

google_product_category and other attributes are also required --

as listed under the other-apparel, without-item-groups, column:

https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/1344057

watches are an exception and have additional, specific, requirements.

a valid color is required for all jewelry.

a valid color should simply be a, single, standard, color
name for the most dominate color of the (jewelry) item.

for example, an onyx ring might have a color value of simply:
black

up to three dominate colors may be submitted -- separated
by slashes -- for example, a turquoise and onyx ring with a
gold-band might use a color value of:
turquoise/black/gold

as to exactly how these values are assigned to specific items, so that
each can be properly submitted to google, the best likely course would
be to contact shopify support directly -- or possibly, whoever might
be supporting the exact version of shopify being used on the website.

Is the color variant something really new ? Last months update did not require it for handmade jewelry.
Do you have a list of colors that can be used ?

the color requirement depends on the type of physical item -- not variants.

color also happens to be a variant-attribute (detailed-product-attribute) --
variants depend on if the physical product has any variant, of any kind,
and the item_group_id attribute.

neither policy is new; both policies still apply.

google has no list of colors -- but there are requirements for a color value;
a best-practice is to use a standard, well-known, one-word, color name --
e.g. a color in the rainbow-spectrum.

The items are handmade jewelry.
The store is hosted on Shopify.
Last month no color was required in the feed. This month all products have errors for "missing colors"

In my product description i clearly state the Gemstone ( ex. amber, turquoise, lapis lazuli etc )

The only way to add the color in Shopify is to add it as a variant. This creates a problem on the product page as it will create a drop down list with one color.

Something must have changed in the last few days as my products all have errors due to "color missing"

(a) handmade jewelry generally falls under:
Apparel & Accessories > Jewelry
in that case, apparel/accessories policies apply.

custom-made items can still fall under a type of physical item (category)
and must conform to those policy requirements -- google is constantly
updating their policy-detection systems and may flag policy violations,
at any time.

e.g. a custom-made-flower-dress still falls under the google_product_category
Apparel & Accessories > Clothing
and must follow those requirements -- as illustrated in the following example:
https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/1347943

(b) check if shopify has added a google_product_category or product_type value --
those are the attributes that typically define the type of physical item submitted.

(c) the color attribute is the dominate color of the item --
for example, lapis lazuli in the description could simply
use blue as the color value.

(d) color can be either a required attribute for variants, or
a required attribute for the type of physical item, or both --

depending on the items being sold.

if shopify seems to be confusing the (color) requirements for apparel/accessories
with the (color) requirements for variants then, the best likely course would be
to contact shopify-support directly.

otherwise, a merchant-center shopping-ads support-specialist
at google may be contacted for account-specific guidance.

To emphasize on Celebird's answer.

It has been recommended for a very long time, as of 1st of September it has become required.
You might of not noticed the recommendation when you looked at your data feed report.

For your products simply ad amber, turquoise, lapis lazuli as the color.

This is required for all merchants selling jewelry.

Hope it helps

Hi Emmanuel,

SInce it is a new store in its second month I must have missed that report.

Currently my descriptions are showing the gemstone name.
In Shopify to add the color you need to add it as a variant which creates a unsightly drop down menu on my product pages..

Is there a way to place the color in the google feed without having the color variant display in my product page ?

I am having the exact same issue you are having,
did you manage to find a solution to this problem?
Is there a workaround in shopify?
Thanks
- Misha
