Multiple product categories for Shopping campaign

In my existing PLA campaigns, I am using adwords_labels and/or product_type to create auto-targets by using own product categories.  So for example, on a single product I might have a product_type that says:

Sunglasses -> Running -> Polarized, Sunglasses -> Size-> Large, Sunglasses -> Frame Color-> Red, Sunglass -> Tifosi -> Running

Under the old PLA system, I created a separate auto-target for each product_type value (up to 10), and bid separately for each of these categories.  When I look at the new Shopping campaigns, in the documentation for product_type, it says:  "If you submit multiple values separated by a comma, only the first value will be used as the ‘product type’ for your Shopping campaigns."  I already know that adwords_labels also are not used in shopping campaigns.  The only recommendation I have found is to use custom_labels (0 - 4). However, the custom labels are cannot be combined using "OR" logic, only "AND."  So if I try to use the custom_labels for each category on a product, like this:

custom_label0 = "Sunglasses -> Color-> Red"

OR

custom_label1 = "Sunglasses -> Color-> Red"

It will not work. Once I pick custom_label0 as "Sunglasses -> Color-> Red" as the Product Group, my only options for custom_labels 1 - 4 is to further refine the Red items.  I want the flexiblilty to have a product in several different product groups, but I see now way to do this in Shopping campaigns.  Am I missing something?

for a product-listing-ad shopping-campaign an item can be included
in only one product-group -- with one bid; the same product can be
assigned different bids across ad-groups and campaigns.

details are currently here --

if there is an issue with a specific account's campaign,
product-group, or ad-group, then a person at google
may be contacted directly --

be certain to use the drop-down country menu, and the
drop-down language menu, to display the appropriate
contact details for your country, language, and time zone.

when contacting adwords, be certain to emphasize
that the question will be about "product listing ads".
