Multiple google product feeds for different target country

Visitor ✭ ✭ ✭

Hi,

I am trying to implement Google Shopping for my clients site. The client currently ships to a lot of countries and we have a common catalog for all the countries.

When I started working on google shopping I realised the below points. Could you some one please help me out here.

Unique product identifiers across different feeds

Do I have to keep unique product identifier for different feeds which have different target countries in the same merchant account.

<g:id>tddy123uk</g:id>

Use different currency for different country

Currently my clients lists the price for products being shipped to India in USD and I noticed that in the feed this should be INR https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/160637

Can I create a feed for target country India with prices in currency USD?

Same link landing page for different target countries

This is something I came across here and I am not very sure what was meant in the reply in this thread.

https://www.en.advertisercommunity.com/t5/Google-Shopping-and-Merchant/Data-Feed-Target-Country/m-p/...

My client has only 1 website for all countries and we use geolocation to identify the country. How should I tackle this issue?

Is there anything else I need to keep in mind while trying to implement multiple feeds for multiple target country which share the same website and same catalog.

Any reply is highly appreciated.

Thanks & Regards

Lakshmi

Hi Lakshmi

Regarding unique product identifiers, as per guidelines of Google "The identifier for each item has to be unique within your account, and cannot be re-used between feeds for the same country in the same language" which means you can use same identifiers for different countries. Please see more details here-

If there are different identifiers for different countries available then you may use those, however I do not think identifiers are country specific
I am afraid, you cannot have feed for India with prices in currency USD? It has to match the currency of the region/country you are targeting, both in the feed as well as in the landing page.

Regarding landing pages, as mentioned by Celebird in this link https://www.en.advertisercommunity.com/t5/Google-Shopping-and-Merchant/Data-Feed-Target-Country/m-p/... a separate landing page (not a website) is required for different countries, one page fits all will not work.

Hi Ajay,

Thanks for the quick reply.

This is where I get confused about using unique product identifiers because the documentation says
- has to be unique within an account (an account can have multiple feeds with different target country)
- cannot be re-used between feeds for the same country in the same language

And most of the people seem to say that the identifiers need to be unique across different feeds.

Regarding the link landing page is this the attribute celebrid is referring to
<link>http://www.example.com/asp/sp.asp?cat=12&amp;id=1030</link>
in https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/188494

Thanks & Regards
Lakshmi

"The identifier for each item has to be unique within your account, and *cannot be re-used between feeds for the same country in the same language*" as stated here https://support.google.com/merchants#topic=3404778. Please note '*same country*' here which to me is the clincher. To think of it, how can one product have different unique product identifiers. Here https://support.google.com/merchants#topic=3404778 or in any other google support page there is option to contact google support at the top right corner, a live chat may with a google rep could help. Regards Ajay

the id attribute must simply be unique per item
submitted, per target-country -- regardless of
the number of registered feeds.

generally, as best-practices, use a mix of letters
and numbers for the id value and only one single
feed should be registered per target-country.

for example,
abc123uk
abc123us

Hi Celebird,

Thank you for replying.

So unique id no matter what.

How about the <link> tag. Does that have to be unique per target-country. Our client has just 1 site and we use geolocation to identify the country. We do not set this anywhere in the product page URLs so basically the product page URL which is set in the <link>tag is the same irrespective of country.

Does this have to be unique too?

Thanks & Regards

Lakshmi

first, you're welcome.

yes, the link url must also be unique
per item submitted, per target-country.

the link landing-page must show the information
as required by the policies of the target-country.

the link landing-page must show the exact
same information for all users, regardless
of any user-specific information.

changing the link landing-page based on any user-specific
information -- such as physical location, ip-address, browser,
user-agent, etc., is not allowed and grounds for a disapproval

or account suspension, at any time.

multiple target-countries are typically supported by using
either url-parameters or a separate directory (folder) -- e.g.
http://www.example.com/products/wagon.html?color=red&country=uk

http://www.example.com/products/wagon.html?color=red&country=fr
or
http://www.example.com/uk/products/wagon.html?color=red

http://www.example.com/fr/products/wagon.html?color=red

anyone from around the world may search for any
items in any of google's target-country domains --
there is nothing required and nothing that needs to
be done for that to happen.

google-merchant-center does not support all countries --
currently supported target-countries are listed here:
https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/160637

however, to show distinct ads in multiple country domains,
a new data-feed must be registered for each target country.

unfortunately, simply registering and creating a separate feed is not enough.

the same link landing-page usually cannot be used for more than one country --
the landing-page language, price, and currency, must reflect the target-country.

the same e-commerce checkout usually cannot be used for more than one country --
the price and currency information must adhere to the policies of that country.

when registering the data-feed file for a specific target-country --
the pull-down list of countries (and the one you select) determines:
(1) which target-country rules and policies you must follow
on your site, in your feed, for e-commerce transactions, and
with respect to the type of physical inventory items allowed;
and (2) which google (shopping) target-country
domain your submitted feed items may be listed.

generally, there are price currency, id, shipping, tax, delivery, language,
product category, payment, and product-listing-ad, requirements per
target-country -- on the website, in the feed, and for e-commerce.

typically, the website and e-commerce must first be changed to accommodate
the rules, policies, and guidelines of a target-country; then, (using the updated
website information), a different feed is created and changed to accommodate
all rules and requirements of the selected (registered) target-country.

importantly, google does not allow automated machine language translation
or real-time rate-currency conversion within the data-feed or on the website.

also importantly, as was indicated, the registered target-country's
landing-page must be universal; for example, if the target-country's
required currency is euros, then the price in euros must show exactly
the same -- regardless of where a user might be physically located
or any other user-identifiable information.

Once again thank you so much Celebird for taking out time to reply to my question in detail.

Current Site Architecture

Client ships to multiple countries with same catalog and language english.

We support USD, GBP and EUR currencies in our site.

So below are the issues we are going to face

1)Unique identifier for each country feed
Possible Fix: Add a suffix to the current unique id in the catalog with the country code to make it

unique while generating the country specific feed.
For e.g if the sku id in the catalog is blue_shirt, then while preparing feed for
US - it will be set as <g:id>blue_shirt_us</g:id>
UK - it will be set as <g:id>blue_shirt_uk</g:id>

2)Unique landing page for each country feed

Possible Fix: Adding a parameter to the current common landing page for products which indicates     the country.

For e.g if the landing page for sku blue_shirt is www.shopping.com/product/blue_shirt for all countries    in the site, then when generating the feed file it would be
US - it will be set as <link>www.shopping.com/product/blue_shirt?country=us</g:id>
UK - it will be set as <g:id>www.shopping.com/product/blue_shirt?country=uk</g:id>

3)Currency should be the same as the country's currency

Currently we sell in USD, EUR and GBP and we ship to countries like Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden,    Norway, India and we dont have the prices in their respective currencies. There is no workaround in

   this case I believe?

4)Language should be the same as the country's language

Same as the case with currency, we support just 1 language. So i guess no workaround in this case      too?

If it wouldnt be a trouble for you it would be great if you can review the issues and their possible fixes.

Thanks & Regards

Lakshmi

based on what has been described --
unfortunately, the website simply does not seem ready
for product-listing-ads, given google's current policies,
and will likely, eventually, be disapproved or suspended.

yes, there are no simple workarounds.

the link url would be acceptable only if
the website actually displayed and processed
the appropriate price, currency, and any other
country-specific information required for the
target-country -- regardless of a user's locale.
https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/160637

for example, tax and shipping costs are
another example of per-country details.

the id example seems ok but could be used only if
the website conformed to all current policies, first.

For UK and US we have prices in GBP and USD respectively and since the language is english that should not be an issue.

So coming to id and link attributes if I just append the country code, we would be in a position to use these 2 countries in the google shopping as well as product-listing-ads. Is that right?
