Missing microdata for condition - new condition in feed, or need to turn of auto updates in shopping

Hi,

I am getting 'Missing microdata for condition' errors in merchant center. But I am not sure why.

In my shopping feed I have: <g:condition>new</g:condition> see here: https://screencast.com/t/9gQiy4XnC

So I am not sure why it would be missing this when I upload and Google processes then feed?

Google's structured data testing tool shows an error on Breadcrumbs, for Title and URL...no other errors. Maybe I need a different testing tool just to confirm Microdata is in place, we have RDF. Maybe that is the problem?

But then I read that this error occurs because we have 'Auto Update' we don't have this switched on!.

Sorry if this is covering a lot of areas, but they are all connected...or certainly seem to be.

Hi Rob,

Microdata refers to data in the code of your webpages that provides information about the products. Not visible on the page, but existing for the purpose of search engines to understand aspects of the product.

The structured data testing tool, is not a tool to tell you what is missing, it only tells you if the code is valid. So if you for example forgot to add a metatag, the tool is not going to show you a warning.

It wills show, when you have typo's etc...

The best way to find out how to update your website is to search on Google your platform and how to add microdata

Or read in Google's official documentation to learn how to add it.

https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/6069143?hl=en

Here is a sample of a full set

    The Brand
    The name

    My Description
    1234

        Price: 10.00
        Condition: new

In Stock

Hope it helps

Hi

Many thanks for that.

The more I think about it the it confuses me!! But do I need microdata?

As my products are all new I don't sell 'old' products

I think also need to check the products that are not in the list off 'condition errors' maybe they have right coding/microdata' and just my simple child products have not!

Thanks for helping clear my thoughts

Rob

Microdata is required when you have automatic update enabled in Google Merchant.

In this case you need to specify all required field on your product landing page.

New or old, you need to define this on your landing page.

Simply add

new
or

I recommend getting in touch with your web developer to assist you in this.

You can also disable this feature in Google Merchant in the top right corner 3 dot menu > automatic item update

Hope it helps

So what harm would it do to turn off 'Automatic updates' ?

I am not sure why I would want them?

Non publicly known, however as Google suggests to use it, it will most likely contribute to a small percentage of ranking. However again this is not public knowledge.

My recommendation is, that if Google recommends you do something. Than do it. It will only help you out in the long term.

Hope it helps
