Merchant Center account suspended after 7 years for Unsupported Shopping Content (Currency)

On Friday, Google suspended our Merchant Center account due to the fact we were advertising collectible coin sets which they claim is considered to be currency and is therefore Unsupported Content.

Google suspension.png

The items in question are uncirculated silver eagles, graded coins, ancient historical coins and sets. Their value is not tied to the value of the US dollar, as their selling price far exceeds their face value.

In addition, many other seller continue to have their shopping ads shown on Google, including the US Mint.

How do we appeal this suspension so that we can get reinstated quickly?

first, thank you for the update and added details.

yes, the best likely course is to simply remove any and all
related inventory items from being submitted, that are in any
way similar to the examples of products violating the policy,
or are in any way related to of the policy references, that
were indicated in the suspension email, from google --

also, be certain a process is put in place so that no such

items are ever submitted again.

as to google's suspension/reinstatement process:

(1) make any fixes on the website or within the submitted (feed) data --
such as removing particular inventory items from ever being submitted;

(2) resubmit the same registered feed with any updated/removed data;

re-submitting inventory data will also usually trigger
a re-crawl of the website, images, and landing-pages.

google will typically allow 7-days or so for the
fixes to be completed and data re-uploaded.

(3) formally apply for a request for reinstatement --

typically, briefly summarize the exact policy violation,
succinctly indicate the exact fix, and specific process
that was added, so the issue will never reoccur.

then, google's policy-teams will typically take 5-business-days or so,
to review any related fixes, accounts, submitted-data, images, website
details, inventory details, supply-chains, etc.

if the fixes were adequate, or the issue has been found to be
otherwise resolved, or applied in error, the reinstatement will
be applied to the account immediately after the review is done.

google may also send an email within five-business-days,
that indicates if the account has been reinstated or not.

if the account has not been reinstated automatically and google
has not responded within five (business) days, after submitting
the formal reinstatement-request, then the best likely course
is to re-contact google, using the phone or an email-request --
do not resubmit or re-request any reinstatement, unless a

person at google indicates otherwise.

an appeal for reinstatement/re-review may be submitted here:
https://support.google.com/merchants/contact/suspended

note that there is a limited number of appeal requests allowed
and google tends to consider only appeals that offer a compelling
reason why the suspension was invalid, or applied inappropriately
or incorrectly, or where a specific fix has been applied on the site

or in the submitted-data -- mentioning any other merchant, or any
other similar shopping-ad, regardless of their veraciousness, are
not considered reasons and will usually delay any re-review.

google may flag a policy issue at any time --
the length of time an item or account is active
are not considered when flagging a policy issue.

generally, for currency related policy flags, be certain that all items on
the website and all items submitted, are sold using fixed-prices that
change very very infrequently, if at all during a years time frame --
or any other factor or detail that may imply any precious-metal status.

precious-metals are generally not allowed and fall under the currency policies.

also, be certain all submitted data, including images. the website,
and all landing-pages, conform to all other google-shopping policies --
especially for any policies that have been updated over the years.

that said, this is mainly a peer-to-peer community public forum;
forum-members can mainly offer suggestions based on details
posted here in public -- posting, here in public, more specific
details: such as a specific landing-pages, all specific attributes
and all values, for one or two items being submitted or flagged,
may allow other forum-members to offer more specific suggestions,
before contacting google.

also, contacting google directly, to ask for a few example items and
any related policy details, before asking google for a reinstatement,
or submitting any related reinstatement-request-form, is likely prudent:

https://support.google.com/merchants/contactflow

potential policy violations by others may be submitted directly to google --

OK, thanks.

Here is a link to an item that was shown as an example of currency:

https://www.thepatrioticmint.com/2018-Silver-Eagle-BU-in-U_S-Mint-Box.aspx

Following your guidelines, we removed all instances of this product, including the 2016 and 2017 year items.

Will these items also be considered currency or precious metals?

https://www.thepatrioticmint.com/2018-Silver-Proof-American-Eagle-1oz-Coin.aspx (this is a proof coin)

https://www.thepatrioticmint.com/2018-Silver-Eagle-Gold-Hologram-_and_-Colorized.aspx (colorized coin)

https://www.thepatrioticmint.com/Uncirculated-State-Quarters--Complete-Set-of-56.aspx (complete set of state quarters)

I want to resubmit the feed for a review, but am afraid to do so, since Google only allows a limited number of requests.

first, you're welcome.

the best likely course would be to contact google for guidance --
using the account-specific contact details within the ad-account,
or within the merchant-center-account, before submitting any formal
form related to an appeal, and before approaching google in any way
for an appeal for reinstatement, or any similar request, and before
making any changes on the website or within any submitted data.

contacting google for account-specific guidance,

before making any changes, or formal requests

for reinstatement, is usually best.

as to the website and example items --

usually, such inventory item-offers should be a collectible-item or similar,
and only ever represented as numismatic treasures or similar collectible.

generally, if the item-offer is in any way represented as an investment,
or investment-grade, or considered as an investment, or being tied to a
market or similar traded currency, or may be sold in bulk before coining
such as bullion, or the value or future value of the item is in any way
determined by demand or market-value -- or if the physical item-offer,
on its own, as a physical-entity, is in any way considered by google
to be a market-based investment or related investment grade, or any
similarly traded currency, or in any way tied to a bid or traded market,
or sold in bulk before coining such as bullion, or the value of the item
is in any way determined by demand or market-value, then google may

flag the item-offer for a more detailed investigation or a policy-violation --
regardless of how the offer was represented to the public.

as an aside, items that ship in the future must be submitted with a
physical-inventory availability status of preorder, never in stock --
any related information on the website should reflect that physical
status or be updated accordingly.

yes, re-contacting google too many times for a
reinstatement may risk a permanent suspension.

also, if the policy-teams determine the original suspension was
valid, severe, and was already made permanent, then no amount

of changes, or contacting google would change the outcome.

the exact wording of the original suspension email
from google and any related follow-up emails, are
critical to understanding the suspension, status of
the suspension, and if a reinstatement is possible.

that said, this is mainly a public peer-to-peer community forum and
forum-members can mainly offer suggestions based on the information
posted here in public.

google is the final arbiter of all policies.

Here is the suspension email we received from Google.

In the meantime, we submitted a new feed to Google removing this item along with any other item that is similar in nature (made of 99% silver and is typically sold at a price that is relative to the SPOT price of silver).
