Magento Configurable Products parent has no GTIN

How do I submit a feed from magento when the parent product has no GTIN.

All the child products have GTIN's, so how do you tell the feed they are linked, my listings are getting disapproved because of this, we dont want to list all the individual size / colour variants seperately

only physical inventory items should ever be submitted --
each item submitted is for a single, physical, item-offer.

the choices are to either (a) submit only one of the variants --
typically, the default variant listed on the page or (b) submit
each physical variant separately, following all google's rules
and policies for supported-variants (detailed-product-attributes).

each variant item submitted from a group must include
an identical item_group_id value and at least one variant
attribute value (size, color, pattern, material) that is
unique among all items within the variant-group.

only (variant) items that are physically in current

on-hand inventory should be submitted as in stock.

the price submitted must match the landing-page price.

google strongly recommends that the exact variant be preselected --

typically, using a server-side-script with url-parameters or a separate

landing-page; e.g.
http://www.example.com/products/wagon.html?color=red&size=175x38

http://www.example.com/products/red-175x38-wagon.html

then, global-trade-data is submitted for the exact variant (child) submitted.

such parent products cannot and should not be submitted, at all.

for specific details on how to implement google's policies
within magento the best likely course is to contact whoever
is currently supporting the specific version of magento that
is being used or, to post in a magento community forum.

So only magento simple products should be submitted and not configurable products?

that would depend on how magento defines those terms --
each e-commerce system has their own internal definitions.

the simple rule is that -- only a physical inventory-item,
should be submitted as an item, for a product-listing-ad.

for example, an adult, male, solid, red, cotton, shirt, in size medium.

supported-variants, of the same product, also require identical item_group_id
and unique variant attributes -- such as color or size -- to avoid disapproval.

for example, the same, adult, male, solid, red, cotton, shirt, in size large.

if magento defines a simple-product as preselecting values
of configurable attributes -- such as color or size -- then, yes,
the best likely course would be to submit only simple-products.

also, verify with magento that they properly support item_group_id --

What extension you are using for submitting the feeds? Yes, you should submit only the simple products with the link of parent product.

Ok, than you can configure Rocket Web extension to submit only the simple products with the link of parent product.

Also, as Celebird said above, you'll also have to meet Google's pre-select requirement.
Example -if a visitor clicked this product - Jack Murphy Ladies Aurnia II Tweed Jacket and lands on its product page, the dropdown for color and size must be pre-selected for the variant which was clicked by the visitor.

To meet the 'pre-select' requirement you can get 'amasty configurable pre-select' extension or have your dev implement a custom solution.

with its help you'll be able to submit just 1 variant, you'll have to configure this extension and set a default variant for every configurable product. So when the visitor click and visit the page the default variant will be pre-selected.

Or you can just submit all the variants, configure the 'link' attribute in rocket feed extension to append the variant ID in the link. This way when a visitor click your variant product ad he'll see those variant option pre-selected in landing page. You can check the documentation of above extension for more details.

Just to emphasize on the pre select rule. This is a strongly recommended, to avoid confusing to Paul, it means you don't have to do it.

Sometimes recommended gets mis represented, as you have to do it. Which in this case is not. More info in the link below
https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/4752265?hl=en

The reason it is recommend is to reduce the steps the customers needs to do before the buy button is clicked. If a specific simple product is selected from Google Shopping than the logic would be that the landing page has all the options if applicable, to be be preselected.

as per my experience this rule wasn't always enforced. I set up a BigCommerce store where it wasn't enforced but it was enforced on another Magento store.
