Magento Configurable Products PLA

I'm trying to set up a PLA feed with simple products under a configurable product (Magento). When clicking on the advert from the PLA though the landing page would having all of the configurable options available listed on the same page along with the item from the advert they clicked on.

Am I right in thinking if on the landing page there is one picture for all products (they are all the same bar varying sizes of can) and there are no direct links to the simple products elsewhere on the website and this is the only place you can buy the product on the website this should be fine with Google?

Thanks, Alastair

generally, if the product only varies by size and all variant
items submitted have the same price with proper item_group_id
and variant (size) attributes then, the same image and the same
link landing-page may be used.

however --

if any variant product differs by price then, the same website landing-page
cannot be used -- in this case, the landing-page should be a direct link that
shows (only) the exact variant being purchased using either a url-paramter
that can be crawled or a separate landing-page; otherwise, submitting such
items risks disapproval or suspension at any time.
e.g.

http://www.example.com/products/toys/wagon.php?size=40x20x20
http://www.example.com/products/toys/wagon.php?size=20x10x10
http://www.example.com/products/toys/large-wagon.html
http://www.example.com/products/toys/small-wagon.html

if the product varies by color, material, or pattern then,
the same image_link or additional_image_link values cannot
be used; each value must point to an exact image of the
exact variant being purchased.
e.g.
http://www.example.com/products/images/red-wagon.png
http://www.example.com/products/images/red-white-striped-wagon.png
http://www.example.com/products/images/red-white-striped-plastic-wagon.png
http://www.example.com/products/images/red-white-striped-steel-wagon.png
http://www.example.com/products/images/blue-wagon.png

currently, there are four officially supported product variants
with corresponding attributes -- size, color, material, pattern.

all such variant items must be submitted using both proper
(identical) item_group_id values and at least one variant
attribute (size, color, material, pattern) that is unique for
all variant-items being submitted, within a variant group --
or risks disapproval or suspension at any time.

also, if any variant is submitted as in stock then, that exact variant
should be currently within your physical stock on-hand inventory,
available for purchase, and shippable in a timely manner.

Thanks for the explanation thats what I thought but a competitor seems to be doing the above along the following path.

Google Search > "Wood Stain Oak 750ml"

The advert would appear in the PLA but when clicking in the product it would take you to a configurable product page which listed all cans of Wood Stain of the same brand along with different sizes and colours.

This would be the only page that would allow the purchase of the "Wood Stain Oak 750ml" but the customer would also see all other variants.

If this was the only page that could be used to purchase that specific can and an appropriate image was used would this pass the "google" test or would it run the risk of being banned.

first, you're welcome.

unfortunately, seeing an active product-listing-ad does not mean
that the item is not violating a policy or has been inspected --
google may disapprove or suspend an item, feed, account, or
an entire website, at any time.

importantly, all the details within the account, feed, and website
would need to be taken into account to make a determination;
such as -- if the variant is being submitted once or grouped,
if the variants have the same or different prices, if proper
item_group_id and variant attributes are being submitted,
exact structure of the landing-page, if landing-page details
can be properly crawled, account shipping and tax settings,
etc., etc.

however, forum-members do not have access to such details.

generally, different colors require proper item_group_id,
proper color and size attributes, and separate and distinct
image_link values for all such items -- otherwise, only the
default item on the page could be submitted.
