Invalid URL's in Merchant Center Data Feed

Hi there!

I am having some trouble with my data feed in Google Merchant Center and was wondering if someone could help me out. I have uploaded my feed but am getting several errors on all of the items in my feed. For all of my items, I am getting the following errors:

Invalid URL in attribute: image link

Invalid URL in attribute: link

URLs do not belong to your website

I have (I think) followed Google's product feed specifications for URL format. I have also verified and claimed my website URL. I have read through the troubleshooting materials for these errors and have found that my URLs are not in violation of any recommendations there.

The only thing I can think of is that my images are on their own domain separate from the rest of my website. I see how this might cause the "Invalid URL in attribute: image link" error but could this also cause the "Invalid URL in attribute: link" and "URL's do not belong to your website" errors (the "link" attribute contains links to pages on my domain as do all url's listed within the "URL's do not belong.." error)?

I called Merchant Center/AdWords support but they were unable to help. They said they did not directly handle data feed issues and that I should direct my question to the forum. I am very new to Merchant Center/Shopping so it's entirely likely I'm simply making a dumb mistake. If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

I double checked these things and still no luck. However, I got my feed working in a different way.

I ended up converting my feed to XML and uploading it that way. For whatever reason, this solved the invalid url and url's do not belong issues. All of my items are now processed and I am just waiting for them to appear in the Products tab in Merchant Center so I can start my campaign in AdWords!

Thank you for all of the help Celebird!

the image_link and additional_image_link urls do not need to

match the claimed domain -- however, all link, mobile_link, or

adwords_redirect url's submitted must match the verified and

claimed domain, exactly, and generally you must own the domain.

googlebot, googlebot-image, adsbot-google, and all google's mobile
crawlers must be able to crawl the site and all images, at all times,
and the servers must respond properly to all requests.

check all webserver log files for any googlebot, adsbot-google,

googlebot-image, and google mobile requests of any servers

that are associated with any of the link, image_link, mobile_link,

additional_image_link, or adwords_redirect values submitted.

google may take 24-72 hours or so to re-crawl the site and
clear the invalid-url errors after all issues have been fixed
and the feed has been re-uploaded.

potential issues that may trigger an invalid url include:
(1) authentication blocks;
(2) incorrect http response at the time of google's crawl;
(3) malformed or garbled http response at the time of google's crawl;
(4) hostname resolver issues;
(5) firewall, router, or private-ip blocks;
(6) network errors;
(7) timeout issues;
(8) redirects;
(9) robots.txt file that cannot be reached, is redirected, or times out;
(10) robots.txt content that is unreadable, invalid, or blocks google;
(11) database errors or database timeouts;
(12) relocated link or image_link url's not updated in a timely mannor;
(13) any unavailable url's at the time of google's crawls.
(14) improper or mixed character encodings within the feed;
(15) improper or unreadable link or image_link url's within the feed;

of course, an exact feed entry and any additional details
from the merchant-center may help -- forum members
cannot look into feeds or accounts.

Thank you Celebird! Per your suggestion, here is an exact feed entry that is getting all three errors:

Item submitted in your feed:
"504620" "Contemporary Sofa Bed" "Contemporary Sofa Bed" "http://www.thefultonstores.com/item.aspx?itemId=-2146863910&itemNum=504620" "http://images.furnituredealer.net/img/products/Coaster/color/Clyde_504620-m0.jpg" "new" "available for order" "325.00 USD" "Coaster" "504620" "Furniture"

id: "504620"
title: "Contemporary Sofa Bed"
description: "Contemporary Sofa Bed"
link: "http://www.thefultonstores.com/item.aspx?itemId=-2146863910&itemNum=504620"
image link: "http://images.furnituredealer.net/img/products/Coaster/color/Clyde_504620-m0.jpg"
condition: "new"
availability: "available for order"
price: "325.00 USD"
brand: "Coaster"
mpn: "504620"
google product category: "Furniture"

Error:

  • URLs do not belong to your website (Please verify and claim a new website URL in the General Setting page or change the product lising link to point to a page that belongs to your current website.)
  • Invalid URL in attribute: link (We couldn't understand the URL submitted. Please check the format of you URL.)
  • Invalid URL in attribute: image link (We couldn't understand the URL submitted. Please check the format of you URL.)

I'm happy to provide any other info that'll be helpful!

Thanks so much!

first, you're welcome.

be certain the feed is in a supported format (e.g. tab-delimited)
and the actual contents of the feed file, when viewed within a
web-browser window, does not contain any quotation-marks,
stray spaces, or stray or invalid characters, of any kind.

also, what is the exact url that is currently claimed?

first you're welcome and that sounds like good news.

generally, if an xml feed corrected the issue, the

root-cause was most likely related to the contents
and formatting within the original feed.

be certain all id values within the new feed
are identical to the original feed, to prevent
a duplicate listing disapproval or suspension.

I have also had issue with google not allowing image urls to be on a different domain to the main store domain. I believe that this is still the case. Which seems silly as google page speed recommends the images being on a cookie less server which generally means a different subdomain or domain.

be certain the error refers to an image and not a landing-page.

only urls related to the landing-page -- such as link and mobile_link --
must match the verified and claimed url; image related urls may be
on any site if the url's conform to the image related url policies and
the image themselves meet all google's image format related policies
and can be properly crawled by google, at all times.

sometimes the image domain has restrictions that the main store domain
does not or vise versa -- in those cases, the fix may seem to imply that
the same domain is required for images, but that is not the case.

currently, image urls may be on a different domain to the main store domain.

however, forum-members cannot see into any submitted data or account details --
without more exact, specific, information posted here within the public forum,
the best likely course would be to contact google-directly.
