Impact of changing the shipping rates on Shopping Feed

Hi

I have experienced a 50% drop in clicks from Google Shopping after changing the postage rate in our feed. We changed the rate from £4.99 to £0, and included the £4.99 in the product price. So if a product was previously £9.99 with £4.99 postage, it now shows as £14.99 and Free postage

Having done this before on eBay and Amazon without any adverse effects, I have been disappointed to see a 50% reduction in clicks and sales

Interested in any feedback anyone may have as to why this has had such a negative impact. Currently we are thinking that the perceived increase in price has made our offering look more expensive, and this has lead to the decline.

Would be very interested to have any other insights

Thanks

Jules

1) Google gives you more or less eligible impressions based on price competitiveness. So if you increase your price and you are above average higher then your competitors, then Google will not give you as much traffic.

2) Yes, an increased price will make your listing less desirable.

3) Over time your ranking will also drop if this has an impact on CTR and thus be lowering you further and further.

4) Maybe change back to what you had, if it worked and your goal is to get sales, then your original setup was better.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feed back Emmanuel - much appreciated.

Since posting, I have spoken to Google and the feedback was that since the change in the feed, the account has not been hitting its budget, the amount spent per day has fallen as much as the clicks

The suggestion is that the feed change reset the system at their end and reduced the exposure that our offerings have been getting, and by accelerating the budget delivery method this could give the listings a boost

If I change it back, it could have the same impact, so they did not advise that

He came to this conclusion as the cost per click had not increased, suggesting that the feed just was not getting enough exposure

Any thoughts on that?

Thanks

Jules
