Sorry I know this is an old topic,

Can someone confirm if this is still the case? we have had our feed flagged for images, a lot of which do have background context

e.g. a shelf is shown on a wall, fence panel already installed in a fence, Shed in a garden setting etc

Would these be a violation? Nowhere does it say that the images have to have a white background (at least for UK documentation) The products are coming around for a re-assessment on the 19th and I need to know if I need to spend hours editing the background out of products before then.

Many many of our competitors are using images with non-white backgrounds and I want to know if they are also breaking rules for which they can be reported.

The image link requirements do not mention staging/background, however, the additional images do? so does that mean because it does not say you may that you cannot? it is very unclear!

a white or transparent background is now required.

if there are any clarifications needed for specific outliers,

the best likely course is to contact google; this is mainly a

peer-to-peer forum; google is the final arbiter of all policies.

Yeah, I wish I could get a straight answer from phone support, every person I speak to seems to have a different opinion. For the moment I am playing it safe and going white, and reporting everyone else. Unfortunately, with the market we are in it seems a LOT of people have background images. Either we are being overly cautious, or have been unlucky to get pulled.

when contacting google, indicating that the issue

relates to shopping-ads, the shopping-ad policies,

and the merchant-center, sometimes helps.

generally, disapprovals for an individual merchant

are not triggered or evaluated as compared against

others -- but rather, based on the existing policies.

not all items, landing-pages, images, businesses, supply-chains, etc.,
are always checked for all potential policy related issues -- google
may disapprove an item or (permanently) suspended a merchant,

at any time.
