How to temporarily disable feed during planned site outage?

We have a planned site upgrade coming up which will take the site offline for at least half a day. I'd prefer to do something preventative so that Google doesn't start throwing up errors on items in Merchant Center. What's the best approach...

  • Should I delete the feed file entirely?
  • Or should I re-upload it with all 'availability' attributes updated to 'out of stock' until the site is back online?

Thanks,

Jen

(1) no;
(2) yes;

also, be certain to disable automatic-item-updates, if enabled.

google recommends disabling shopping-ads, via the availability
attribute and disabling the automatic-update-updates feature,
at least 24-hours before any such outage.

be certain to verify the results, by carefully inspecting
the availability attribute under the final-attributes section,

under the products-list-tab, by clicking the item's title.
