How are the merchant centre 'product reviews' linked to products?

I have just created the new product reviews feed available in the Merchant Centre (new feature). I have created the XML file and wonder how they are linked to the products submitted in the shopping feed (products)?

Within the <product_ids> tag there is a <sku> tag. Is that how it links the reviews to the products?

Hopefully I will start to see the stars in my Shopping Ads very soon.

The merchant centre is not very informative in this area.

My feed is available here: goo.gl/jIKqh2

Any advice is welcome.

the linking for product-review-feed is generally via
global-trade-data (mpn, gtin, brand); the values
should be assigned by the brand-manufacturer --
not merchants -- and identical for all merchants
selling that exact item, both in the product-feed
and the product-review-feed.

sku and id are the merchant-assigned values.

at least two valid and proper global-trade-data values --
as assigned by a manufacturer to the exact item being sold,
usually stamped as a bar-code on the item at the factory --
are required for most types of items within a product-feed;
those should be carried over to the review-feed.

In the product review sample feed, Google presents a 'minimal' data set for the product reviews xml feed (as shown below). I'm struggling to see how any of that information would be linked to the product submitted on the product feed. Maybe the unique key used is the <product_url> tag?

<review>
<!-- minimal sample - no optional elements/attributes -->
<reviewer>
<name>Jane</name>
</reviewer>
<review_timestamp>2014-04-21T07:14:21Z</review_timestamp>
<content>I was a little skeptical at first, but it grew on me.</content>
<review_url type="singleton">http://www.example.com/review_59684.html</review_url>
<ratings>
<overall min="1" max="5">4.3</overall>
</ratings>
<products>
<product>
<product_url>http://www.example.com/product_6207.html</product_url>
</product>
</products>
</review>

the product_url should be identical to the link attribute.

there is no guarantee that the data will be used or displayed --
generally, the more accurate and identical the data between
the feeds, with respect to the physical inventory item and the
global-trade-data assigned by the manufacturer, the better.

as an aside, if the required global-trade-data is not accurate
and valid within the products-feed, the items are subject to
disapproval or suspension, at any time.
