Gtin for apparel & accessories>clothing ?

Visitor ✭ ✭ ✭

Is it necessary for me to add gtin number for apparel feed (clothing) ? It seems impossible to do that as there are thousands of products due to different sizes and colors. It must be a waste of money to buy gtin for clothing feeds. Can I upload clothing feeds without Gtin ?

Any help will be appreciated.

My English is poor, hope someone can understand what I said.

(1) do not buy gtin.

google never requires the purchase of any gtin by merchants --
all global-trade-data is assigned by the manufacturer, not the merchant.

merchants must submit only valid global-trade-data (mpn, gtin, brand) --

as assigned by the brand-manufacturer to the exact item being sold.

all merchants selling the same item should be submitting the exact

same global-trade-data values, as assigned by the manufacturer.

what's required depends on the type of item and the target-country;

for most target-countries --

(2) only Apparel & Accessories with the explicit sub-categories of
Shoes, Sunglasses, Handbags, or  Watches require a valid brand

and at least one other valid global-trade-data value (mpn or gtin).

otherwise yes, clothing may be uploaded without any gtin whatsoever.

(3) all other Apparel & Accessories -- including Clothing --
requires only a valid brand (assigned by the manufacturer).

(4) only Media and Video game software require a valid gtin --
assigned by the manufacturer (publisher).

(5) all other types of products require any two valid global-trade-data
mpn, gtin, brand -- values (assigned by the manufacture).

(6) for any item that does not have the required, valid, global-trade-data,
as assigned by the manufacturer you must submit the
identifier_exists attribute with a value of FALSE

if identifier_exists is properly submitted with a value of FALSE

then, mpn, gtin, brand, must be entirely blank (entirely empty),

for that item.

do not purchase gtin -- there is no such requirement;
there is never any need to purchase global-trade-data.

if valid data from the manufacturer exists then merchants must

submit the data -- otherwise simply submit the identifier_exists
attribute with a value of FALSE

if all items have a proper identifier_exists value of FALSE

then mpn, brand, and gtin may be removed from the feed.

(7) if and only if you manufacture the product then, you may submit

your store-name as the brand value; otherwise, that is not allowed.

otherwise, any self-assigned global-trade-data -- mpn, gtin, brand -- by a

merchant is grounds for disapproval or suspension by google, at any time.

As far as I am aware, only ONE of the unique product identifiers are required. Either the UPC, EAN or the JAN (you're not selling books so the other is not relevant here).

If you enter the MPN ONLY, I think it will let you submit it too. I'm not 100% sure on that though.

You MUST have something to identify each individual product, otherwise, Google wont know what product to display. If you're selling thousands of items, you simply don't have an option to include these or not I'm afraid.

Hi Donner

Apparel items must include brand and one identifier (GTIN) as @Dave_Davis has mentioned, MPN can also be used, however, you must include at least this along with Brand, although it is recommended to include all three.

Google Feed Specification

This link will show you the requirements.

If however, you are the manufacturer of the items of clothing and you do not have an identifier for the items, then you can opt to include the identifier_exists attribute and set this to FALSE.

This can only be used however, if the identifier truly does not exist and simply not in place of finding these values.

The details of this attribute can also be found on the link provided above.

Thanks a lot.

Our products are OEM (without Gtin, mpn), we use our own brand, but I am not sure that the brand name can be used or not. So for clothing, I can only use brand attribute as unique product identifier or set the identifier_exists value to FALSE, right?
