Google Trusted Stores and HTTPS Support

I'd like to find out if there is any update with the Google Trusted Stores program and support for sites that are served entirely over HTTPS.

In May, I was told that we did not qualify to become a trusted store at this time because our entire site is served via HTTPS, that you are aware of this limitation and that it is being addressed.  Despite arguing that there is no reason to shuttle e-commerce customers between HTTP / HTTPS protocols anymore, that using HTTPS to protect all customer interactions is essential, and that Google now recognizes HTTPS as a signal to rank sites higher in search results, there was nothing that could be done and I would have to wait for a fix.

We have kept our trusted stores integration operational since, yet it seems we are no closer to coming to a resolution.  This issue has been around since at least Novemeber 2012.

The scripted response I received from the Google Trusted Stores Team in August:

The Trusted Stores program requires HTTPS for all pages that handle personal information, such as checkout and order confirmation pages. However, for non-sensitive pages such as product pages, homepage, and informational pages, the program still requires HTTP and is not compatible with HTTPS.

Our team agrees that this is an important issue for us to address, for both our partners and users. We are working on a solution to this, but we don’t have additional details to share at this time.

Additionally, I was told back in May:

We realize this is a limitation and this is one of the top requests from merchant feedback. The developers have this as a major point to address within the Trusted Stores program.

It's doubtful that there are any technical challenges with respect to supporting HTTPS in this matter, and certainly it should not take months (years) of development time to offer basic support for HTTPS sites.  The suggestion by the Trusted Stores team that they agree this is an important issue is absurd; it is clear that this issue is not being addressed with any urgency.

I (and many others, I'm sure) would like to understand if Google Trusted Stores will ever change this unjustifiable policy and assign the resources necessary to fix support for HTTPS sites in a timely manner.

Hi Michael,

The Google Trusted Stores team is actively working with Merchants that have a full HTTPS website to make it possible for them to display the Google Trusted Stores badge. We ask that they please contact the Trusted Stores team for more information.

Thanks for your flexibility,

Mini

Mini,
I own ShopBakersNook.com and it is a Google Trusted store. I am wondering when you will have a solution? Will you send out an e-mail telling us what to do? Thank you Brian Shockley.
