Google Shopping payments methods in footer?

Hi there,

what are the guidelines for payments methods needed in the footer? Do they need to be visible to the user at all pages or only on the landing pages where the ad sends the user to? Can they be hidden from the user somehow but visible to the crawlers?

first, you're welcome.

if only parts of a website are being used for shopping-ads, the entire domain
and the entire business, are still subject to all google's rules and policies.

the best likely course is to simply have a footer, that is seen on all website
pages that contains the following, similarly labeled, links -- clearly visible,
easy-to-find with respect to all users, in all locations on all devices, at all
times: privacy-policy, terms-and-conditions, contact-us, payment-policies,
shipping-information, billing-information, return-policy, and refund-policy,
all with clearly written content -- not just on the e-commerce sections;
then, a link's page-content may explain the payment methods accepted
and any related details.

then, only shopping-ad landing-pages may include the payment-logos --

that reflect the content details, when clicking the payment/billing links,

seen on all pages.

There are no written guidelines directly mentioning payment methods.

However, hiding things is pretty much a big no no. Place the payment methods on all pages in the footer is recommended.

One of the requirements is to provide a consistent experience. Hiding elements move away from consistency.

Hope this helps.

Hi Emmanuel,

thank you for your reply. The issue is that we con't want to show them always, and I was told that if the icons are not shown in the header the ads will not be displayed at all on Google. Is that true? I can't find a documentation mentioning that. Thanks

any omission of relevant information is a severe violation,
under the misrepresentation-of-self-or-product and related
policies, and is grounds for a permanent suspension from
the program, at any time.

examples of such relevant information includes, but is not limited to,
a merchant's terms-and-conditions for purchases, shipping information,
return-and-refund policies, payment-methods, or any such information

that is unclear, missing, or not easily found.

other examples include full payment and pricing details,
how a product or business is represented to the public, etc.

in addition, any violation of google's more general webmaster-guidelines,
are also violations of the shopping-ad policies -- any related violation is
also grounds for a permanent suspension from the program; for example,

presenting different content to human-users and search-engines/crawlers.

effectively, this usually means that the return, refund, and payment details,
and related links, must be clearly visible to all users, on all pages of a site,

all the time -- typically, on the footer of every page; all users must be able
view the identical information, regardless of any user-specific detail, such

as ip-address, device, user-agent, physical-location, etc.

note that google checks all pages on a website, not just landing-pages;
however, google does not check all pages, for all issues, all the time --
not being flagged, for any length of time, does not mean that a violation
does not exist -- a policy-flag may be raised at any time.

Thanks for your reply. One little clarification though, if a website has only part of it being an e-commerce (like in the case of a Telecommunication company) is it ok if the footer shows a link to the payments methods page/popup only in the e-commerce sections and without featuring ALL the payments icons logos on the footer but just the link to an info page? Thanks.
