Google Product v Content Categories

We are moving to a GP feed format, and have hit an issue. The current Google Product Categories appear to date from around 2013, and are missing some values, like 'Travel' related items, and 'Gambling'.

However, the 'Content Categories' seem to have these.... and many others, but they are missing a numeric id to identify them.. which would make our job easier.

Am I missing something? Any help appreciated...

Gambling-related products are not allowed on Google Shopping

With regards to travel, only physical products can be sold, no tickets, vacations, houses etc...

Hope it helps.

Many thanks Emmanuel,

Accept that, and applaud the rationale.. however it seems strange that there is taxonomy for The Natural Language API (Games / Gambling .. for example), but no usage in the product taxonomy. Maybe it would be worthwhile having yhem put in there, but with a 'prohibited' flag, so its known that   it cant be sold on Google.

Hey Ho... its good to know though.. many thanks.

the natural-language-api has no direct relationship to shopping-ads --
however, other campaign-types and ad-formats may allow advertising
of certain types of products or services, with restrictions by google,
that are not allowed with respect to shopping-ads, at all.

also, the google_product_category taxonomy may be used for other campaign-types,
or ad-formats, that use the merchant-center, such as dynamic-remarketing-for-retail,

where the policies are not necessarily identical.

the merchant-center policy pages do mention such differences and the
restrictions previously indicated, but are not necessarily reflected, or
mentioned, in google's taxonomy details for google_product_category
values, for shopping-ads.

feedback concerning such shortcomings may be given directly to google --

Many thanks for that... and the link. We are a major marketing company, and need to standardise on 'something', and the safest format is the Google Product Format. So, we will have to (for now), invent our own Ids.. and just set a flag for those that Google wont accept, which is fine.

Will male the suggestion on that link.... many thanks for that. Great support.. especially for a Sunday ;-)
