Google Merchant Promotions Feed Specifications

Hi there,

I have a question regarding the Merchant Promotion feed. According to Google merchants can include optional fields in their feeds like "free_gift_value" (please refer to https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/2906014?hl=en&ref_topic=2877465). But my question is, if merchants can use the required "long_title" attribute to specify the exact free gift value like "Free $20 accessories", why will they bother to use the optional fields? Are there any differences between the two ways to express the free gift value in this example?

Thanks! Smiley Happy

generally, the optional attributes are to help google
decide where or how a specific promotion might be

displayed using more specific information.

for example, 20 USD for free_gift_value is a specific numeric
amount -- as opposed to (parsing) the text within a long_title.

for promotional-program questions google may be contacted here --

alternatively, promotional-messages may be added to
product-listing-ads by the careful use of ad-groups --
