Google Merchant Center - what is a duplicate product?

I've read quite a few threads on this but nothing that answers my specific question.

Lets say I have a product 'Mains Cable ABC' which fits 'Electrical Item F' and 'Electrical Item G'. I list three products on my website:

 - 'Mains Cable ABC'

 - 'Mains Cable for Electrical Item F'

 - 'Mains Cable for Electrical Item G'

Each has its own description, unique product id, title, etc. However the brand and the mpn would be the same. Where available the gtin would also be the same. Would the second two be considered 'duplicates'?

yes.

a duplicate relates to the physical inventory item.

the same physical item cannot be listed multiple times --
such as submitting an item multiple times based on the

number of other products the physical item is compatible

with, or the number of unique landing-pages on which

the physical item is featured.

describing any details about compatible products available is also not allowed.

google only wants information about the specific
physical item-offer being sold -- submitted once.

generally, submitting the same physical item multiple times --
duplicate listings -- is an example of attempting to gain an unfair

advantage, an abuse of google's ad-network, and is grounds for
disapproval, or suspension from the program, at any time.

The thing is I totally understand that (Amazon is the same but it has ASINs which make it even stricter) and on many grounds it seems fair but over and over again I find customers are far more likely to buy a product that sounds like it is specifically for them in the title than one that just lists what it fits in the description.

This is one case where listing by what a product fits can actually be a better user experience ... but I don't expect to see Google changing its mind based on my 10 cents Smiley Happy

Cheers celebird for the clarity.

first, you're welcome.

there are many other campaign-types and ad-formats

that are available, do not have those exact restrictions,

and may be a better fit for advertising certain products

or using alternative marketing strategies --

also, currently, there is no restriction on advertising the same product

using shopping-campaigns and other campaign-types simultaneously.
