Google Merchant Center & Online Store, One and the same?

If I have an existing online store, does Google Merchant center pull the data from there, or do I have to duplicate and have two stores, one in Google, the other one on my own site?

Will then Shopping Campaigns only drive traffic to my Google Merchant Center?

Are they both (my existing store and my Merchant Center) a single place?

google-merchant-center is mainly used to
submit a list of on-hand physical inventory
data that can then be organized within an

adwords shopping-campaign to bid on and

pay for ads -- product-listing-ads.

product-listing-ads help drive traffic
to an existing e-commerce website.

payment to google is per click.
