GTIN and comic books

Diamond provides 17 digit UPC numbers for comics.

60325923600028205

First 12 digits are the Comic Issue (so like Batman Eternal #1)

The other 5 digits refer to the variant (usually cover variants)

Is the correct GTIN for comics with this type of UPC just the first 12 digits?

Also Diamond provides a Diamond product # and a stock #. Is the MPN the product # or the stock# for Google?

Thanks!

A GTIN can be UPC, EAN, IBAN, JAN etc...

Not sure about comic books, but the below link should give you a better explanation.

Yes we know what a GTIN is, the issue is that since Google only accepts the first 12 digits we end up with multiple issues with the same UPC because the only part that changes for different covers are the last 5 digits.

Also, for old comics we are guessing we need to remove the brand to use the Identifier exists = false. While we "know" the brand, most back issues do not have MPNs or UPC numbers because they are that old...we are talking comics from the 30s,40s,50s...
