Do my google shopping ads affect my text ads?

I'm wondering what happens if I have a shopping ad and a text ad appearing on the same page. Will their position be determined independently or will one have an effect on the other

Hi Graham

Text ad's and Shopping ad's tend to be displayed in alternative places.

Text ad's being placed on organic result pages or depending on settings on particular placements etc..

Shopping ad's display on Google Shopping and sometimes listed on Google Organic pages, under "shop for" with a few items listed.

It's possible that you can lose search performance through the option of clicking the select few "shopping ads" shown on the organic results page or alternatively a user can choose to search through shopping results rather than click on your text ad.

However, your bidding amount should not be directly altered by bidding against your text ads, only similar ads found within each category (search/shopping).

Hi Graham,

There is no problem if you are running text ads along with your shopping ads. However, you can prioritize your ads the way you want. If you want to give more preference to Shopping Ads, go to the shopping campaign's settings tab and under Shopping Settings Advanced, select priority to be High. You will find three options, high, medium, and low.

Choosing a Medium or High priority for this Shopping campaign will also prioritize it over any existing Search Network Only - Product Listing Ads campaigns.

Thanks

Hi Graham, further to what Tom and Ratan enunciated your issue beautifully, I cant help adding a few words as I faced similar conundrum and Tom helped me with it, almost entirely...but as you can never be sure 100% in Adwords because of its dynamic nature I would add something here- that though text and shopping are different ball game altogether, working on different principles, there is, to an extent, 'friction' among same/similar products in both the campaigns, at least I can discern that easily in my campaigns.

In my personal opinion- both ad types appear in search pages ( though, maybe, in different sphere) after searchers type a search term and hence you cannot rule out the correlation....to what extent they influence is something you got to find out practically after analyzing data over a period of time. Having said that, both types of campaigns I manage are performing fairly though in different degrees, one is not trying to eliminate the other, far from it.

Hello Tom,

Just wanted to add to Graham's question.

When I search for example 'Nomex' and click on Shopping Tab. I see a list of Shopping Ads and at the end of the page I see Dynamic Search Ads.

Is it possible to differentiate if someone clicks on the Dynamic Search Ads on the Shopping tab?

Any answer would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Harini
